You should be dinged for even suggesting an electric grill/smoker. Don't bring that weak shit to a tailgate. Nothing compares to charcoal.

Anyhow, my vote is Montgomery Inn.

Yes Carcoal, assuming Pres. Holbrook OK's it.

MontgomeryInn=Damon's=both suck. Throw City BBQ in there as well.

The Best BBQ is always at some off the map, hole in the wall located 5 miles south of BFE.

I prefer the North Carolina -Vinegar/Mustard style.

Couple Fav's

Parker's BBQ - Wilson North Carolina I used to schedule monthly trips to a customer in Wilson just to go there.

Wilbers BBQ - Goldsboro NC

And for southern BBQ and Atmosphere

Dreamland BBQ in Birmingham Alabama

My personal favorite is Gates & Sons in KC; prefer them to Arthur Bryant's by far (just a matter of taste).

Other good BBQ:

- Red River in Pittsburgh
- City BBQ in Columbus (both this and Red River are Texas-style)
- Red's Little Wagon Catering in Montgomery AL
- Maurice's Piggy Park in West Columbia SC is my wife's all time favorite

Personally, I prefer a spicy-hot red sauce augmented with Texas Pete.

Hmmm. Think I'll pick up some City BBQ on my way home.

If you use charcoal you'll be refilling it every couple hours and the sun will go down before it's ready!
You would have to pre-cook your BBQ and finish it on a charcoal smoker.

What style of ribs are your favorite?

I am of the firm belief that memphis has the #1 style of ribs, and Rendevous specifically has the best BBQ in the world. I however would like to taste owensboro, ky bbq, as their bbq fest each year looks insane.
Give us updates on any new BBQ you had when you return from vacation!

Fascinating! So 225 degrees over gas or electric cooks faster than 225 degrees over charcoal?

It is not anymore difficult cooking babyback ribs, prime rib roasts, pigs, turkeys, or whatever you've got on hand over charcoal than it is over gas. People have been slow cooking over charcoal for the last 80 years.

Every rib cook-off participant uses charcoal. Taos has no idea of the importance of slow cooking and the taste added by charcoal.

I prefer to actually do mine in a crockpot.
