I am in Memphis for work and staying downtown. I headed off to Beale St. for some brews, blues, and BBQ. I hit upon the Blues City Café which was recommended to me. I have to say that I was not overly impressed with the ribs. They were dry and not very saucy.
On plus side on the walk back to the hotel though, I ran across the Flying Saucer. This may just be the Mecca of draft craft beer. Awesome selection and definitely will be a place I come back to if ever in Memphis again.
Archibald's in Northport, AL is what BBQ is supposed to be. It is literally a rundown looking shack sitting behind a house. Not much on the menu, ribs, sliced (not pulled) pork, white bread and a couple of sides. The ribs are solid - right there with the original Dreamlands, but the sauce is otherworldly. I have a friend that travels to Birmingham every few months for work. He lets me know when he is going and I call Archibald's a couple days in advance and they set a couple gallons of sauce aside for my buddy to pick up. I have a few gallons heading this way November 22.

I am okay with a dry rub and no sauce, but I prefer a sauce or option of sauce. These ribs were just dry and not succulent at all. Disappointing for all that I had read about Memphis BBQ and the recommendation of the place. I have learned since of a couple of other places to go to next time I get here.
