I think the most telling thing is that the reviewer spent most the article praising the game, and he listed only one negative really. He said that since New Vegas uses similar character animations and models from the previous game, released in Oct of 2008, they were starting to show their age :shake: That was a year and a half ago, and quite frankly I don't think those features have enjoyed any leaps in bounds in the last year and a half. If anything, if you get Fallout for the PC, you can let the modding community tweak both those things for you to make it prettier :wink2:

Comes out tonight! OK, technically it comes out tomorrow at 12:01 am, but you know what I mean.

Glad I've got plenty of PTO and vacation left for this year. I knew I was saving all that sick time for something.

Collector's edition will include a deck of playing cards and set of poker chips (one from each Casino), along with the usual making of DVD and graphic novel.

I wasn't sure I was going to buy this right away until I read a few reviews. Seems that this is essentially Fallout 3, but closer to the original Fallouts' moral ambiguity and dark humor. Pretty much what I hoped Obsidian would bring to the table.

I played for several hours last night (After the fact that I could NOT install the game on my PC until 3AM because Steam is on the west coast and is stupid). So far it's a pretty good game, but hasn't lived up to 3. It's not as funny, none of the characters have been as interesting as Moira Brown, and I've only run across one potential party member (Can't get her yet). I'm slowing myself down a bit as I'm currently writing a Walkthrough/FAQ for the game, it'll be up on GameFAQs here tomorrow I think with the first few quests.

I have noticed some old elements from previous Fallout games have returned, like Reputation in each town (Currently Idolized in Goodspring). The good news is that the game hasn't been too buggy on the PC despite previous warnings. Fallout 3 would crash for me on a regular basis when it first came out. Haven't had any crashes in 7 hours of gameplay, however I've had several cases of the game running slow as ass for no reason. My processor/other resources were fine during this time.

Have you gotten near the strip? More interesting characters there (like the King), and there is a side quest for prostitutes that is hilarious (I won't ruin it). Let's just say this game is a little more R rated than the last. There are certainly some rather boring characters, but some really good ones too. I would give it some more time before declaring it hasn't lived up to 3. It's depth is ridiculous. I have missions piled up. Some of them are rather boring though. That is one of my few complaints. There are missions that seem like filler.

BTW...you can get the girl at the bar at the Mojave Outpost (I believe her name is Cass) to come with you, but not right away. You get a side mission out of her. Follow it and eventually you can get her to join. Of course I am playing hardcore, and now she is dead. Oh well.

Yeah, I heard about Cass, but figured I'd have to wait and do that mission. I'm current writing a Walkthrough/FAQ for the game, the early version is up on GameFAQs currently (Only through Primm atm, still updating). I can't wait to get the robotic dog for a companion. I'm also playing through on Hardcore...trying to stay hydrated is a bitch sometimes! Worst part is I didn't put in my preorder code to get the Gamestop goodies, so I don't have that Vault 13 canteen.

Heres the early guide, will be updated tomorrow I think: http://www.gamefaqs.com/xbox360/959557-fallout-new-vegas/faqs/61086

Ever thought about doing the strategy guide with screen-shots?

I'm going to pick this game up next week sometime I think.

I've thought about it, but GameFAQs doesn't let you imbed images in the guides. The guides are free, written by gamers, and the site has been getting lots of traffic for years. My Oblivion FAQs from years ago still get thousands of hits a day, which seems weird to me. I think text based game guides will die off eventually as game Wikis are always popping up these days, and I think they're more convenient for quick info/answers. For in depth stuff I still prefer a text based walkthrough.

Anyone else had issues with the game freezing on PS3?

The console versions seem to have lots of issues with freezing and crashing (also long load times). There should be a patch for it next week (at least according to Bethesda....yes, they are doing the patch not Obsidian).

I am playing on a PC, and it hasn't been bad. No crashes, and only one freeze. Plus load times are not bad. The only issue I have had is the last auto save does not always show up the next time I play the game. I lost about 1 hour of gameplay because I got used to using auto save. Now I make sure I save on a regular basis. There is also the occasional NPC that gets stuck in the ground, but that is not that big of a deal.

It really sucks this game is so buggy on consoles (at least from what I hear). With a 2 year old engine you would think most of it would be fixed by now.

My buddy has noticed this on the PS3 as well. It's kinda funny, anybody that had Fallout 3 on PC will lament over the crashes and lockups when the game first came out. Knock on wood...PC version has been incredibly stable for me this time around. When getting Fallout/Oblivion games, I always suggest getting it for PC if you can. The modding community is unbeatable, they're constantly creating awesome quests, custom houses, weapons, characters, working movie theatres, and various other things that keep the game going. My favorite mods are simple ones like one that changed all the outdoor music to the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly soundtrack, or the mod that changes all Microfusion cells to Duracells (Looks like you're reloading with a "Copper Top." I smile everytime I reload).

WARNING - SPOILER pertaining to the wild wasteland perk. Nothing major to the plot, so it won't ruin the game for you. Just some of the strange Easter eggs.

In case anyone is wondering, there is a perk at the beginning that creates interesting events that happen in the wasteland (all pretty much revolve around popular culture). You know one is within view when the confused Vault Boy appears at the top left of the screen. There are a couple that were easy to find. Especially the Indiana Jones one (right at the start of the game). One I didn't understand at all on the cliff top (I had to look that one up). Yet I didn't know what was going on the other day when I was at the Legion town and the Vault Boy popped up. It was at night, and I had no idea what the interesting thing was. Turns out on one of the walls is written "Romanes eunt domus." Awesome Life of Brian reference. Oh, and this is a HUGE spoiler....stop reading if you are going to play this game.................................................................................

Speaking of Monty Python, you can actually get the Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch. The box says "pull pin and count to [crossed out 5] 3." I believe this same joke was in one of the first Fallout games.

Yeah, I know Fallout 2 had a random encounter (Based on Luck and perks) where you would run into the Bridgekeeper and the Bridge of Death. You could also see the Knights of Camelot "riding" across the wasteland, still looking for the fabled Holy Grail for all these years. The first encounter is far funnier as you can actually answer the 3 questions (Unique to the game), and get a similar result from the movie.

It was interesting that you got a Life of Brian reference at the Legion town. I got one in Nipton, although it was also at night and tough to see at first. Near a burned out building there were two dead bodies, neither of which can be looted. The names are Owen and Veru from Star Wars: Episode IV
