What's the easiest way to get to New Vegas? Those deathclaws wipe me out every time.

Just follow the main quest. It will take you South, then East, and finally North. You will hit Novac. That main road will take you North right to New Vegas.

First time I played I actually went North right away and I was able to sneak by the Deathclaws somehow (I did a lot of climbing, and I did die a few times...there are also Cazadors, giant radscorpions, and other high level enemies going directly North from Goodsprings....it's a huge pain at a low level).

Take your time getting to Vegas. Theres a lot to do along the way, and you can miss some cool characters and party members otherwise. Cass and Boone are both pretty cool and good to have in a fight, both require short quests to pick them up though. Theres hundreds of locations even outside and around the Vegas Strip, theres no rush in completing the main quest line. From what I've seen, you could probably just do the main quest and complete it in a day or two, but it would be unsatisfying. Lately I've been reloading from multiple saves and checking out the different paths you can take leading up to the final battle, theres a lot of interesting characters like Caesar that you would miss if you didn't see all the options.

Cass requires getting to the Crimson Caravan, which is North of New Vegas (so, it's not really a short quest once you meet her, although the quest itself is rather short once you get to the Crimson Caravan). Boone is at Novac, and easy to pick up once his side quest is complete (I don't like Boone since he kills Legion on sight...that can really screw things up, even if you plan on going against the Legion). Veronica is just North of Novac at the trading post, and the easiest to get to join. Just talk to her. She is a nice melee companion, espcially if you get Punchy (it's a weapon in one of the caves). Raul is nice to have since he reduces weapon wear. That is a big plus. I never have played with Lily or Arcade (although the bonus for Arcade can be a big plus...I won't ruin it, but I read what you can get if you keep him as a companion).

True, you do have to get just outside of Vegas before you can think about getting Cass, but you pretty much just have to head back to the Outpost after you've picked up the Crimson Caravan quest. I've been mostly running around with Veronica myself, hoping to get her quest to pop for me so I can finish it and move on, no luck so far. She is a beast with melee, although sometimes she just runs ahead too soon and gets into trouble, even when set to passive.

Lily is pretty tough and also good with melee. Her dialog is pretty funny at times, and sometimes she'll just snap and go on a rampage, watch out when that happens. The only companions I haven't touched yet are Arcade and Raul. Boon's hate for Legion is unfortunate at times, but his sniper abilities sometimes outweigh any negatives. He will headshot the crap out of just about anything before you can even get reasonably close.

Not sure if this really belongs here, but somewhat Fallout New Vegas related. I finally stepped up to SSD. I got 2 on sale at Newegg (Intel X25-M 120 Gb), and I put them in RAID 0 (I won't get into TRIM, if people even know about that). Anyway, I installed Fallout New Vegas onto them. Load times are alot better. The roulette wheel does not even make a full revolution during the loading screens. It's pretty cool to have such quick load times.

Although in retrospect I probably should have waited a little longer. It's really nice to have, and my computer does feel peppier. Yet it's not as amazing as some people claim. Maybe it's because I already had decent 7200 RPM drives in RAID 0, or because I keep my computer pretty clean without much bloatware.

On another way side issue, I did a clean install on my computer due to the new drives. I decided to be lazy and not bother installing drivers outside of some essential sound drivers and keyboard/mouse drivers. I then played Fallout New Vegas with the drivers Windows downloaded automatically. Best performance I have seen yet in the game.

I haven't downloaded Dead Money yet, but will probably do it soon as free time increases. I haven't touched my FAQ in awhile, but I recently finished my second play through as a bad guy. I've heard mixed reviews on the first DLC, everything from "great," to "this damn explosive collar is pissing me off."

Finishing this game is one thing that I'm going to have to do once this hell of a semester is over.

Saw this post on another forum, with no link provided but it does sound awesome.
On NewVegasNexus, someone has uploaded a mod that will allow you to start in FNV and then travel to the FO3's Capital Wasteland. You must have both FNV and FO3 installed.

I love modding

It's ridiculous what you can do with some of these games.
