Might as well make a thread for this. Now do I build a new PC to play it or just get it on the ps4?

Probably should have this topic merged with this one, or visversa:

New PC. Fallout and Elder Scrolls are made to be played on PC, you do yourself a disservice if you play them on console. Yeah, vanilla Fallout is fun, but Fallout with mods is epic. There's some great modders out there that put out fully voiced custom quests, companions, weapons (game breaking and non-game breaking), armor, improved textures, tweaks and fixes, new perks, new mobs, game balancing, you name it. I can't imagine playing these games on console anymore, and I honestly prefer to do shooters with a keyboard and mouse as oppose to a controller.

You shouldn't need to build anything crazy to run the thing. I don't think it'll be as resource intensive as something like Star Citizen. I don't know what your current rig is like, but you could probably get away with just upgrading your video card and maybe RAM.

What are these games like? Most of the gaming blogs is losing their [Mark May] over this announcement.

Is it basically Skyrim in the future, with Guns?

It's like Skyrim, but in a unique post apocalyptic world as if our culture froze in time around the 1950s. Technology evolved, as evidenced by the Power Armor suits and weapons like Plasma Rifles, but the music, homes, and fashions look like something taken right out of the Cold War era. Fallout games tend to give you lots of options when it comes to factions and how to complete quests. You can choose to disarm an old nuclear warhead, or set the thing to detonate and destroy an entire town. Karma plays a big part in your character's development. There's also a lot of humor in the Fallout franchise that you don't really find in Elder Scrolls games (Outside of maybe the occasional Daedric quest).

I love all the Fallout games personally, my favorite franchise, each game is a little different but it's hard to hate any of them (Except maybe Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel on the old PS2 console...that was barely worthy of the Fallout title). I prefer New Vegas over Fallout 3, it's worth a play through, but 3 is well loved by many players because it was the first Fallout game in about 10 years and hooked a new generation. Fallout 2 will always be my favorite, it's worth a play through too. 2 could be the best game in the franchise.

You're going to be able to download and install mods created for the PC on the xbox 1. If that doesn't come to the ps4, I'm ditching mine.

This could change a lot of stuff. I've always advocated PC over console when it comes to Fallout and Elder Scrolls, but if they get mods on consoles now that could change things.

Then again...I've seen how console players complain about bugs or corrupted data in the past when it comes to those games, and those problems only get worse once you start modding typically. Plus I tend to prefer mouse and keyboard when it comes to shooters, you just don't have the same kind of precision with a controller unless some kind of auto-aim is enabled like you see with many shooters today.

May be different with XBox One architecture since it's functionally a Windows x86-64 box running Hyper-V. If Windows 10/DirectX 12 does deliver cross platform play (buy software once, run on any) it's not a total loss if the console can't match the PC version.

Having loved Skyrim and never played a Fallout game, I went out and picked up Fallout 3 for the 360 this weekend.

I've just got out of the Vault and headed to the small little town of Megaton.
I have this feeling of not knowing what to do or where to go. I remember this feeling at the beginning of Skyrim too.

I hope I can get things sorted out. I don't really care for the compass yet and PIP Boy map, but I remember it taking awhile to get used to in Skyrim too.

You'll be fine. Fallout is a kind of game where if you explore for a bit and find some other locations you'll be better off and you'll enjoy the game more. Don't feel like you have to follow the main quest right out of the Vault, deviate a bit and explore some other locations. You'll encounter some cool stuff and characters, plus you'll amass more wealth and find better gear that way.
