I agree that it is sexy. And it will have performance. I'm no Lotus purist...but there's a lot of Lotus purists out there...and they are the ones buying Lotuses. Plus it's risking the future of Lotus to unveil something like 4-5 new models? Developing cars isn't cheap.
I've been in the market for a 2005 Elise recently, and the recent announcement of these high dollar super cars has spiked prices on used Elises by $5000 to $10000. Mainly because you won't be able to buy this kind of performance and simplicity in the future.
I'd say Lotus' current run is probably one of their best in their existence. Granted by best, I mean they've continually build cars without running out of money, like they did in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Hell, Colin Chapman didn't even care about making street cars; he did it to finance his race team. Personally, I think their are too many players in the $100k to $150k price range, and not enough in the $45,000-$75,000 range. From my perspective, a $55k sports car becomes a $25k play toy very quickly.
