ESPN (A bunch of Death-Spiraling maroons)

Scott Van Pelt: "Paterno was a good man, just made a mistake."

A fourteen year, uninterupted mistake. Mistake after mistake after mistake.

That's what I'm hearing today on his show. Yeah, I know, watching ESPiN is a mistake on my part.

ESPN looking stupid again in ways more profound than can be stated.

What did SVP say about Jim Tressel a year ago? Did he "just make a mistake"?

Ever notice that ESPN reporters never ask any questions at press conferences?

Jeremy Schaap didn't ask one question during Thursday's 45-minute Freeh press conference, Joe Schad never asks any questions at college press conferences, no ESPN reporter asks questions during Big Ten Media Days.

It's almost like they let everyone else do the work and then take credit (kind of like when ESPN always says "Sources" or just "Confirms" a story).

When talking about ESPiN and their "reporters", just remember that E stands for Entertainment. This is not, by far, a credible news organization.

If ESPN wants questions answered, they'll send Tom Rinaldi.

Joe Schad doesn't need to ask questions, because his "sources" are Twitter and Internet message boards.

Van Pelt was brutal towards Tressel.

I don't want to drag the whole Tattoo scandal into this issue because there is no comparison and, really, any attempt to do so is a disservice to Sandusky's victims.

But it should put in perspective for the guys in Bristol about some of the strong language they used in the Ohio State investigation. I doubt it though.

I disagree. I get what you're saying that we shouldn't be comparing the tattoo-for-memorabilia scandal with PSU crap. And I'm not saying that they are comparable. However, to say that the PSU coverup was just a "mistake" or a "bad choice" or whatever words SVP used, and to be brutal towards Tressel, I think THAT is the disservice to the victims at PSU. They're both coverups by the football administration, and in that point-of-view they are comparable.

Just my IMHO.

Sports are fun, enjoyable outlets from real life. I would like to think that the people at ESPN realize their hyperbole about Tressel dealt with a relatively minor issue that had sole relevance to the sports world. They were asshats about it; probably having even a little fun with it. I have not forgiven them. And SVP is absurdly far off in his assessment of Paterno's transgressions. But I'm not going to compare the two reactions.

It's like this: I have a very good friend who is a Penn State grad. I will see her this weekend at a barbeque. I have absolutely no intention of giving her any shit about what's going on in Happy Valley. It's not her fault. It's not a pissing contest. It is serious shit. Now, she gave me a little grief about Tatgate. It was all in good fun. But I'm not interested in payback. Not for this.

This stuff. Sandusky. The cover-up. Paterno. This shit isn't fun. And I think it is a sobering break from the stuff that is fun. I miss the days when the biggest scandal in college sports dealt with trinkets and tats.

I can only assume it's because one is dead and the other isn't.

I'm normally on the ESPN vs tOSU bandwagon, but just don't see it on this one.
