This is Milliner's favorite course

Are you [censored]ing kidding me?

Alabama has the gall to call themselves a University, when a full scholarship is provided to a student who as a Junior has just learned what the quadratic formula is. Unbelievable. Pack up the bags folks. There's no competing with that.

:shake:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe anything below 101 level in college is considered remedial. All 'entry level' college courses are typically 101, iirc.

You are correct, at least how the numbering system works in Ohio. In order to be college level, the leading digit must be a '1'. So say a course in Ohio is numbered Math 0800, it would be remedial.

Also, any college level mathematics course has to build on a prior course. For example, if there is a course called Intermediate Algebra it would have a number with a leading digit of '0' since it is remedial. Then the following course must build upon this course. One simply can't have a course, give it a leading digit of '1' and call it college level. The topics must support it being a college level course.

Seeing as what that course is a pre-requisite for (Finite Mathematics or pre-calculus algebra (College algebra)), this mathematics course would be classified as remedial in the state of Ohio.

This kid graduated from a pretty rural high school in Alabama, so I'm not surprised if his basic preparation was lacking. As for the "gall" of a school offering remedial classes, I think a state university in Alabama is well-advised to provide the necessary underpinnings for students from the state, which supports its public schools hardly at all, to learn at a college level.

I know enough about U of A to say one can get a quality education there; I've known plenty of its graduates who were highly competent professionals. Without a doubt, the B1G has schools with more academic prestige than most SEC schools. But let's not go overboard with self-congratulation.

I think you've missed the point entirely.

Then perhaps you should have been less abstruse in making it.

We are talking about a football player, no? I thought it pretty clear that I was questioning the role of Alabama's players as student-athletes. I respect Alabama as an institution, I don't see why you would bring that up when I was referring to the quite evidently non-existent standards the school has for its athletic department's academics. The school as an institution and the school's athletic department are two entirely separate spheres - I was referring to latter and not the other.

OK, fair enough, but how this differentiates Bama from any other Big Time College Football program is a mystery to me. Every single one has players who would have difficulty balancing a checkbook or writing a grammatically correct sentence.

Of course, Dee Milliner will very soon have a checkbook with more commas in its numbers than either yours or mine.

Can we bring this discussion back to hot sauce. For pure flavor, this is the one for me.
