Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim

So I started this game on Thursday and called in sick to work on Friday.... and Monday =/. I went from level 1 - 42 with 5 pieces of Daedric Armor. I hate this game... Its ruined my life.

It's a good game, but I wouldn't say it's that much better than Oblivion...if at all. The AI is still not that smart and it's predictable. Pretty much the only thing that changed was some updated graphics, they added dragons, and gave it a change of scenery. Some of the questing missed the mark too.

I pretty much finished the game, the only thing I have left to do is collect the remaining shouts and do Shalindor's maze. I had created a 2nd character so I could do the Legion and Dark Brotherhood on my true evil character. I was very disappointed by the Legion, the quests were an exact carbon copy of the Stormcloaks, all the way down to the dialogs. The Dark Brotherhood was okay, it was at least on par or maybe better than Oblivion's.

I'm getting frustrated by finding quest items randomly. At least in Oblivion if an item was marked as a quest item it was weightless. Now I'm picking up things along the way that I can't drop, so now I have to go do these quests that I don,t want to do so that I can get rid of them. I understand the reasoning behind not making these things weightless anymore (hello, Umbra) but at least don't make it so I don't have to do a bunch of [Mark May] I don't care about so I'm not encumbered by worthless daggers and lutes and books. Why not make it so I can't drop or sell the stuff, but can place it in an owned container?

I just had to backtrack my entire day's worth of gameplay because I got cursed with some [censored]ing lute. Couldn't drop the thing, found out I had to join the Bard's College to do the quest to get rid of it, then found out that the quest was bugged because I picked up the item first, and that even after I completed the quest I was going to be stuck with this undroppable lute. PITA.

It's shit like this that makes me not feel bad that I'm going to spend the next week flooding Skyrim with enchanted iron daggers.

Very different feel than Oblivion. The map is harder to read I can't see the roads like I can on Oblivion's maps. Just barely into the main quest, but looking to run around and kick random tail for a while. Been a lot fun messing with it so far. I may have to switch up the controls. I was so used to using the psace bar to activate items or talk, the default layout has that as E on the keyboard. Still getting the hang of it.

What or where is the best place to store all of your stuff? I assume a house. If so, what is the cheapest/earliest/easiest place to get a house?

I keep getting bogged down with stuff but don't want to drop it or sell it yet.

Houses are the best places to store stuff. I believe white run has the cheapest house in the game. You have to talk to the Jarl's steward and help some people around town to buy a house if I remember right.

Thank you. I really need a place to put all these damn books.

Be careful with bookshelves. They may have been fixed in one of the patches, but they're still broken for me. I've started putting mine in an end table. While that breaks the realism a bit, you can store more that way and they'll be arranged automatically. If you're planning to fill the bookshelves for decoration, I'd at least make sure to only do it with cheap, common books rather than skill books or other rarities.

I was just going to throw them on the floor... as long as they are saved and don't disappear that is all I care about.

I hate organizing my smithing, alchemy, combat, theiving etc apparel all the time. Anyone have a good solution to this? I end up carrying around too many necklesses rings and of course other apparel.

Once you initially sort and establish some containers in a house, it's easy to get into a routine for when you come to town to drop or sell loot. Here's how I sort:
  • food
  • raw materials
  • alchemy ingredients
  • potions
  • books
  • armor
  • weapons
  • jewelry
  • notes & keys
  • soul gems and other rare miscellany

I generally put my enchanted crafting gear in the same containers as the corresponding raw materials so I don't have to dig for them among the other apparel containers. I also don't hoard unenchanted weapons or armor like I did in past TES games. I only keep unique items and stuff I can't make myself, and sell the rest.
