Okay, I'm sitting around conemplating my first character build for this game.

I've decided I want to be a tank and bash the shit out of things close combat style. My question is: should I be a nord or an orc?

I like the orcs heavy armor bonus but don't know what the npc interactions will be like.

I really like the nord two-handed bonus but don't like that they are geared towards light armor.

Thoughts?

Don't pay attention to the initial skill bonus's (as you can level up or change your mind later one pretty easily) I would only look at the special power and abilities. That said I would go with the Nord, Dumner, Altamer or Breton.

It is my understanding that the initial bonuses are added on to the maxed out skill points, so for most of the game they don't matter but for a maxed character they would come back into play. Correct?

OneBuckeye is right. Don't bother too much with initial skill bonuses. In most cases they aren't large enough to notice a big difference, and ultimately you can always skill up. Special powers and abilities are more useful in comparison...but to be quite frank, in my opinion many special powers are not all that useful either and they unfortunately share the same key as your shouts. I find I rarely use my Breton's Dragonskin, despite it giving a pretty nice bonus to my protection. I kill things fast enough with Sneak attacks or Magic that I rarely take damage anymore. I say just pick whatever race you would like to look as the most because ultimately the bonuses will matter little in the end.
