Ebola confirmed in the US

It gets down to the basic question of as a Christian nation, can we get beyond our politics to care about non-white people in other countries?
Do we care if they die from disease and starvation?
As a Christian nation the answer should be obvious.
Yes we should. Because we know in our hearts it's the "right thing to do".
For too long we have found it easy to do military action in other countries.
So, why do we struggle with humanitarian efforts? When we know it's in our core values?

Agree in principle completely.

That is why I want to lock down their borders for them, to protect the people in neighboring countries and prevent the spreading of the disease.

Yeah they can't enforce it. That's why it's ridiculous. They couldn't stop the bubonic plague and that was at a time when martial law was an every day thing and the fastest form of travel was a couple months from one side to another. They can make all kinds of bans and rules, but not everyone will abide, and it only takes a few.

Pandemics, like super volcanos and meteorites, are inevitable.

It can absolutely be implemented and if all it does is cut down the number of infected people entering the US from "a bunch" to "a few" it's worth a shot.

You hear the horrifying groans. Decaying hands scrabble at the door, trying to find a way in. They want to eat you. You sit down on the sofa, kick your feet up and open a can of Spam. No worries. You're inside a Zombie Fortification Cabin from Tiger Log Cabins.

Personally, I'd prefer something with an outer perimeter that keep the zombies farther away from my haven. I would probably lose my appetite (even for Spam) if I had to listen to them growling and scrabbling at my front door.

Q: Are we ready to merge the Ebola and Walking Dead threads now?

Air Travel and Ebola
UPDATE: October 20, 2014

Accra, Ghana

IT’S FUNNY, sitting here in West Africa again and listening to the news from the States. There’s talk now from certain corners advocating the quarantining of all passengers arriving from Africa, or even the outright banning of flights to and from the continent. A lot of people seem to have no concept as to the size of Africa, and which regions are are not affected.

On any given day the number of passengers entering the U.S. from the three impacted countries — Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia — is comparatively tiny, and all of them arrive via third countries in Europe or elsewhere. We keep hearing of proposed “flight restrictions,” but in fact there are no direct flights between the U.S. and any of these three countries. In fact there is only a small handful of flights into the US from any African countries period.

Europe, on the other hand, sees dozens of flights arriving from West Africa daily. It’s worth noting there have been no Ebola outbreaks in Europe, and citizens there do not seem to be as hysterical over the issue as Americans. This is not a virus that a person can catch casually, yet we are reacting as though smallpox were breaking out.

and yet one got through and infected two Americans.

I don't really care if its yet another thing they want to add to the ugly American stereotype.

Be overly cautious.

Fuck anyone from Africa or Europe that doesn't like it.

I don't think America needs to close its borders yet. My gripe is based more towards the mishandling and quarantine of suspected carriers by the CDC after it was confirmed here.

As it stands though, you or I, as Americans, have a better statistical chance of marrying a Kardashian and getting a reality TV show than contracting ebola.
