Ebola confirmed in the US

Belizean news reports stated that the cruise ship Carnival Magic was offshore after the government of Belize learned that a U.S. hospital worker on board may have been exposed to Ebola and that the Belize Coast Guard was deployed to prevent the ship from going into port. The government of Belize assured its citizens that the health-care professional “never set foot in Belize.”

I have always thought about moving to Belize and becoming a farmer and running a small business. Just makes it all that more appealing.

Not actively looking, but I do browse the web. Places there are dirt cheap.

The one I have been looking at for a little while now has sold. Here is a similar property. Really cheap, sizable enough, nice remote location with no need for warm clothes ever again.

15 acres, 25 grand USD. Creek. A little too far inland. I would like river / canal access to the open water for boating, but you get the idea and can browse my fantasy with your own search if you like.

Great website for land searches around the world is this one.

Looking for my own Zihuatanejo.

Do you have to apply to immigrate there?

I thought to buy land and live on it indefinitely in another country, you would have to become a citizen.

But then, I've never owned any property outside of the US (does New Mexico count?).

No you can buy land there and still be a US citizen. Technically you need to leave for Belize for like an hour every 6 months, but it seems pretty straightforward. You can establish citizenship fairly quickly (5 years or so from what I recall). You wouldn't have to.

Two interesting tidbits from Fox News.

1) Interviewing a doc who claims 21 days is not a sufficient length of time for quarantine.

2) The first plane the nurse flew on to Cleveland--it never stopped flying. Has been all over the place since.

And then, there's this:

Wonder, on an average day in America, how many people lose their lunch on public transit? I'm guessing, a few.

Do you want to get murdered by pirates? I'm pretty sure that's how you get murdered by pirates.

Pretty sure at this point either pirates, ISIS, or ebola is going to get me anyway.

I'll take my chances with pirates thank you sir.

Not to play realtor here, but could I interest you in 10 acres for 10 grand Lassie? Maybe 3 - 5 miles from the open water.

So it appears Texas isn't scared of imposing a travel ban

Texas health officials have ordered any person who entered the room of the first Ebola patient at a Dallas hospital not to travel by public transport, including planes ship, buses or trains, or visit groceries, restaurants or theaters for 21 days, until the danger of developing Ebola has passed.
