Ebola confirmed in the US

Link

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama has asked former White House adviser Ron Klain to coordinate U.S. efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak, an administration official said on Friday, after criticism the government's response to the virus has been slow and inadequate.

Klain, a lawyer and businessman, was a senior White House aide to Obama and chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden. Earlier, he served as chief of staff for Vice President Al Gore, and also for former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno.

He will report to homeland security adviser Lisa Monaco and national security adviser Susan Rice, the official said.

The decision to appoint a so-called Ebola czar follows the infection of a second Dallas nurse who had treated the first Ebola patient to be diagnosed on U.S. soil, Thomas Eric Duncan...............

We now have an extra layer of bureaucracy to muddy the waters of what little bit of grabasstic clusterfuck of a response there has been to date...The Ebola czar.

Glad to know a loyal political crony can find work these days.

Carry on with the disease infecting the peasants.

So we're either gonna sue the ebolas or pay the ebolas off to leave us alone?

Wouldn't a doctor of some sort be a little more qualified here? We've got those in 'Murica I think...

That was the first thing I said while reading that. Lets have a guy spearhead the operation with absolutely no medical background. Its fucking genius.

I think I would rather have a regulatory compliance officer from a major chemical company honestly.

Doctors aren't as smart as people think honestly. They have a great deal of knowledge about a very narrow topic.

I would rather have someone who can talk the subject at a basic level, but is a great administrator / manager / leader.

For instance, I have heard that Firestone has a plant in the hot zone, but totally took care of it. That is a safety / compliance officer with some skill there in battling Ebola. Not a career politician / bureaucrat, an actual manager. Hire that dude or someone similar. Zero chance of any government employee picking the right guy for this job as none of them can do it themselves. To me you can't effectively hire for a technical position unless you have that skillset. Lots of fat HR chicks have told me otherwise over the years, but they can't seem to hold down a job for more than a year or so so I lose track of their fat asses.

Doesn't at all have to be a doctor...ideally it would be someone with significant Health Policy Administration experience. Someone who knows the ins and outs of medical bureaucracy, someone who knows the difference between useful medical regulation and mindless government red tape. I probably wouldn't hire an MD (unless they have HPA experience) as the Czar...but I sure as hell wouldn't hire one to regulate air traffic controllers, and that's basically what Obama is doing by picking this guy.

Agree completely.

To be honest, your guy sounds like a better hire than my guy, I guess I just don't know the org chart of the health industry to know better. Same dude in the chemical industry though basically.

This guy isn't curing shit. We have some boneheaded nerd whose claim to fame was trying to get Bloomberg to ban Big Gulps. This Dr Frieden or whatever that negligent / personally liable piece of shit's name is not what we need. You want a manager of those types, not king nerd and political crony.

Cruise ship carrying Texas health care worker stopped by Belize coast guard. Not allowed ashore. Hmmm. Novel idea.

link

Belizean news reports stated that the cruise ship Carnival Magic was offshore after the government of Belize learned that a U.S. hospital worker on board may have been exposed to Ebola and that the Belize Coast Guard was deployed to prevent the ship from going into port. The government of Belize assured its citizens that the health-care professional “never set foot in Belize.”

There's 4000 people on that ship.. and a MAJOR stop just said "move along"... they better open up the free bar or there's gonna be a mutiny and somebody's gonna get tossed into the ocean
