My daughter is just finishing up her Masters in Epidemiology. She can't believe the basic Epi 101 precautions that for some reason our government refuses to put in place. I don't think anyone has an issue with medical and other personnel helping these countries, but to not be smart about taking precautions to minimize the spread of the disease is asinine. Why should an individual like this Dr. be aloud to put others lives at risk when it could easily be prevented? My wife is on call at a hospital less than an hour train ride (oh the irony of that) from where this guy was just rolling the dice with other people's lives. She works the ward that the administrators have decided will take any Philly Ebola victims. They still haven't been trained for [Mark May]. So pardon me if I am not as flippant with this as you are.
As far as the odds go, if the government could do something as basic to their reason for existence as protect their own borders the odds would be even better.
Yeah, but how many hep C infected patients get into her ER? Bet the number is frighteningly high.Appreciate it.

I guess you prefer North Korea's way of dealing with the "crisis" then.Crisis management 101 - limit the damage or spread of the issue as best as you possibly can, contain what is there and put rules into place to prevent leakers.
We fail yet again at crisis management. The lack of leadership is appalling.

Lots of common sense here.

"An Ebola diagnosis need not be a death sentence. Here’s my assertion as an infectious disease specialist: If patients are promptly diagnosed and receive aggressive supportive care—including fluid resuscitation, electrolyte replacement and blood products—the great majority, as many as 90 percent, should survive."
And we are starting to see this.
Better than the highly trained people dealing with it in NYC. . . .
NYPD Stunner: Cops Exit Ebola Victim Apartment, Dump Gloves, Masks In Sidewalk Trash Can
We need effective leadership here. What we have is effeminate leadership.
Oh, excuse me all to hell...stupidity is not gender-specific.
