High School Early Ohio State Title Picks

I know people will naturally love either Glenville, or one of the two good cinci teams, but why no love for McKinley?

They beat Glenville last year, and are arguably better this year behind Morgan Williams. They beat a so far- dominant Massilon by a huge score, and have one of the few defenses who can probably hang with Glenville's speed.

I'll go with McKinley to win the state title.

yea they definitely seem improved from last year but its hard saying. they took a thumping last year which is why people might be looking them over a bit. i know their still there i just think glenville has more athletes and of a higher nature so i think its their year.

i graduated from LCC and know half of the team. the new coach has these kids believing big time and after taking down versailles, they really think they're going to take it all. they lost to elida in the 1st week, since then, they've been rolling. i like their chances.

i know half the team as well and i also know that the affairs with etzkorn last year were far from pretty. i know they are rallying behind cooper plus the better coaching but they are still a question mark. i was not impressed with a win over versailles. everybody picked versailles to win DV mainly because they were in the MAC which is a shame because versailles has struggles int he passing dept and they are not the dominating team everybody made them out to be and i picked versailles to beat LCC but i expected it to be close and gave the chance that if the game was close LCC had a chance. i could honestly see LCC losing to anna, the game is a big question mark because nobody knows for sure what either team is capable of. i am a big supporter of LCC but i have to be realistic here and i dont see them near the caliber of patrick henry or south range and i dunno if they can even get out of the region seeing how cincy thumped pleasant with relative easeand i underestimated cincy. point being im disappointed in people listing LCC listing them as their state favorites. its great to be optimistic but LCC is the caliber of team that needs to go into every game knowing they are the underdog and work hard to try to knock each opponent off knowing that they are from here on out. im a big LCC supporter and hope they can do it but realistically i just dont see it happening.

I just don't see any team in D1 beating St. X this year, but I do think a return to state is probable for McKinley.

St. X is completely dominant this year.... their defense is lights out. I pick them to win D1.

If they don't Colerain will. Basically the second round game this saturday is for the state title. Not really fair, but thats how it goes.

Either st.x or colerain would steamroll whoever they would play in the finals.... (see last year to jog your memory, as colerain destroyed mckinley 55-10 on their home field). This years colerain team is not quite as good, but st.x is close to colerain last year.....

Funny how the northern ohio dominence has shifted, DRAMATICALLY to the south in the last few years......

I would be shocked if one of the above two powerhouses did not win it this year....

i doubt they are dominant like last year, granted i havnt seen them in person but they are very good. if it ends up colerain/st. X vs glenville i have a hard time believing they will blow out glenville as colerain did to mckinley did last year. mckinley pulled a cinderella last year and made it then had their starting LB get knocked out, while colerain had the better athletes i would attest the blowout more in part to colerains triple option confusing the hell out of mckinley. half the time they didnt even know where the ball was(neither did i) and the defense was smothering. if st. X/colerain make it to the title game vs mckinley or glenville it will be a much closer game. i can guarantee no more than 2 tds in difference. mckinley laid down a very solid washington team and glenville has prospects and speed everywhere as usual but especially so this year.

glenville would be very surprised midway through the first quarter against either of these teams when they realized their speed doesn't do much when they are lying on their backs....

I have nothing against glenville, but until they prove they can win a big game, I won't expect them to beat a team of the caliber they will be facing in the state finals...speed and athleticism, glenville is probably the best in the nation, no doubt....but that is only part of the game.

Luckily they decide the winners on the field (even if one team has to travel 350 miles and the other 10....)

Yes, I graduated from St.X, so I am probably a bit biased, but I don't think any team "wants" it more than they do this year.... they have been so close for so long......I think this is finally their year.

I hope St.X does play glenville in the finals (or colerain at least).... if that happens, it would be a game for the ages.....

While overall St. X may not be as good as Colerain '04, the defense is definitely comparable. The offense hasn't been lighting teams up like Colerain does, but that's because Specht gameplans very conservatively on offense because we really don't need to score many points to win this year.

while i see what you are saying its not like glenville is small on the line. they have DI prospects on the line that are some big boys and their skill players are all burners and i would definitely take speed over power AKA columbus brookhaven over avon lake last year.

Well, the first game between Colerain and X was only decided by a single touchdown, so I imagine there will be a little more offensive production Saturday now that their respective offenses have settled.

If Glenville makes it to the finals, I highly doubt that they will get steamrolled by one of the Cincy teams. They may not win, but I just don't see them getting walked on.

And by the way.......Good Luck to the Clear Fork Colts Saturday (my school's old rival) as they take on a talented Coldwater squad - and my pick for the DIV state title

I haven't seen any of the D1 powerhouses play, but I know they all must have very good defensive units. Based on what I have read, though, Xavier's unit seems to be a cut above. The key in a Glenville-Xavier or a McKinley-Xavier matchup might be not so much how well Xavier's D plays (because their D has been unbelievable all season), but how well Glenville's or McKinley's D handles the Xavier offense. How long has it been since we've seen a defensive stalemate in an Ohio D1 Championship game? If the game ends up being a defensive battle, who among the top teams has the best special team players?

There are some really, REALLY good teams in ohio this year.... more than usual it seems.....

Living out of state, I haven't got a chance to watch any teams in person this year, but I am hoping to make the drive to canton in december if I'm in ohio, which I should be....

I would pay a lot of money to see glenville-st.x this year in the finals.....these have to be two of the better teams in ohio high school history....One with probably the most college recruits in ohio history, the other with one of the best defenses in state history...

Colerain, despite having two losses and being out in the second round, in my opinion, is still one of the top 10 teams in the nation. If they were in any other state but ohio, florida, texas, and maybe california, they would run away with the state and probably be ranked 3rd or 4th in the nation.

This much is true.... whoever wins D1 this year will have a legitimate claim as one of the best ever in ohio....although I can't honestly ever see a team being better than colerain last year..... it was just stupid how good they were.
