High School Early Ohio State Title Picks

Clue me in, Glenville gets by Iggy's, St. Eds and the Canton/Massillon teams? We don't get anything about them down here in cloistered Cincinnati.

It's not that far-fetched. Glenville beat Iggy and St. Ed's last year and was very close to knocking off McKinley. It's pretty safe to say Glenville's improved since last year, while Iggy and Ed's lost a lot of players.

Iggy might not make it to the playoffs this year, and I think Glenville's got the team to beat St. Ed's in the regional semifinals and either Massillon/McKinley in the state semifinals. It'll be tough, but hopefully my prediction comes true

oh btw my picks

DI: Glenville.......they deserve one with their athletes but mckinley and washington have been impressive this year. colerain seems real solid as well still with terrence sherrer
DII: Avon Lake.......not much of an expert on DII this year but they still seem solid and they have the experience
DIII: Newark Licking Valley.....id like to pick steubenville but they seem to have a knack for choking in the playoffs but their team looks solid this year. i might change this pick after the LV/NA game.
DIV: Jonathan Alder.......surprising pick i know but they had one OT loss to a good team and absolutely thrashed very solid hartley and ready teams.
DV: Patrick Henry.......i know its just me but i still honestly believe this is the surest state championship lock. this team is a high school USC and i really dont see anybody posing much of challenge to them IMO.
DVI: Liberty Center.......tradition of playoff team plus they get bumped down a division in which they could of made a good statement if they were not outscored by the team above.

Mechanicsburg, Anyone?

I will post only on DVI because that is what I have been watching all year. I think Mechanicsburg has a shot this year, and has a good leader at quarterback. The only downfall is that the starters haven't played much because of the scores. I just think this is the year that they get the MAC "monkey" off their backs!

I don't mean to single you out by this, but this post shows how ignorantly some people make predictions. I have a feeling you haven't seen too much of Colerain this year. A ton of people are listing them as state title contenders without even knowing much about them other than the fact that they won it all last year. I'm not knocking Colerain, because they have a solid program. However, Terrence Sherrer isn't even the main back in their offense any more. Mentioning them as being 'solid' and pointing towards Terrence Sherrer shows just how little some people know about them, yet they still pick them. Another poster mentioned how Colerain has improved exponentially since they played X in week 1. While this may be true, how can we say this when they haven't played a team anywhere near as good as X since that game, against which we could guage the improvement? Sorry, but beating up on Sycamore in no way demonstrates vast improvement. While they may have improved, so have X and many other teams in Region 4. By no means can we say at this point that Colerain is the best team in R4. I don't understand why people feel the need to make predictions on teams they have no idea about, other than the fact that they have a couple kids going D-1.

well i saw colerain at state last year and IMO from what i saw at the state game sherrer was every bit as good as simpson. hes real quick and good with his feet. the biggest question they had coming into this year was the qb which is obviously the nucleus of a triple option. when i watched them play tyler lee i thought a new qb did a commendable job and i thought they did a solid job. if X and colerain played now its obviously debatable as to who would win and it will prolly end up being the matchup in R4. people are looking back at colerain now though because they went scoreless vs you in the first game of the year then went on to handle lee and crushed lakota east 42-3. true their schedule is pretty weak but X's, while better, isnt that impressive either. your hardest games were honestly prolly cathedral and de sales so far so thats hard to say. st X only won 7-0 against colerain with a new qb on a triple option offense so its easy to swing either way. ill wait for the playoffs to see who wins. im picking glenville anyways. the big players seem down for the most part and glenville has talent out the ass.

Remember also that St. X was breaking in a new QB that game too. Coach Specht really didn't open up the offense at all, because at that point they weren't sure just how much our QB was capable of. Numerous players have told me that Specht wanted to run a ball control offense where they ran as much as possible, in order to avoid getting into a shootout with Colerain. I think if there is a rematch in the playoffs, we'll see a much more wide open offense from X. I'm definitely hoping that matchup happens though.
