Early Departures for 2007 NFL Draft (merged)

A lot of the talk here has been Teddy is a top 10-15 pick. There is a lot of WR talent coming out into this draft. What order do you think the WR's will fall into and what destinations could you see Ginn landing.

Here are some possible first round receivers outside of TG.

Calvin Johnson, Jr. GT
Geff Smardzija, Sr. ND
Dwayne Jerrett, Jr. USC
Dwayne Bowe, Sr. LSU
Craig Davis, Sr. LSU
Sidney Rice, So. SC
Rice is staying for sure...also Smardzija may choose to play baseball...with that said it really depends on what a team is looking for...if they are looking for a vertical, big play threat then they go with TG...if they are looking for a possession receiver then they go with some of the other guys...also the LSU guys are supposed to be pretty good even though i havent seen them play either...but we will get a good look in the sugar bowl

Right now, I think Ginn would probably go after Calvin and Jarrett. It seems to me Rice and Smardzija have an outside chance of going ahead of Ginn, depending on everyone's pro day and the combine.

I would have to agree with this. Being purely objective, I'd take Johnson and Jarrett over Ginn, and maybe Rice. I don't think SMahsjhejga is better than Ginn, though...but the pros love tall WRs.

ted should stay

he has all of the intangibles. the speed the hands and the winning attitude. but from what i see he doesnt have the complete nfl ready knowledge of the position. manningham runs good routes ted doesnt. im not sayin he cant succeed in the pros. i just think one more year could be huge to his development

How about Ginn decides what Ginn does next year, I get sick of seeing money money money. He would be a fool to pass up the money is something I just dont want to hear. The money will be there next year but the chance to learn and finish what you started (i.e. graduating from college) may not be there ever again. I AM obviously old school but it sickens me to hear guys turning down the gift of a free education to jump to the pros as if the most important thing in the whole world is how much money they can make being drafted in round X. The money will be there next year and barring any sort of career ending injury (and I do realize the chance of this happening in football is higher but it could just as easy happen in your rookie year in the pros as your last year in college) he and any of the juniors will still be able to make more money in the pros than you or I will make in a lifetime. Let em make their decision, they are the only ones who have to live with it the rest of their lives:(

three out of four

I can see Ginn and Barton going, I can see Gonzalez getting a good word but choosing to stay, but I just don't see Pittman going. That is, I'm guessing the NFL folks are going to predict he would be better served by another year at OSU.

Yes, I've seen plenty of RBs in the NFL who are not as good as Pittman, but they are free agent walkon, minimum salary guys. Ladanian Tomlinson, he's not.

Maybe it's the emergence of Beanie that is pushing Pitt that way?

Go Bucks! Skin the Gators!

Well, we have threads on here speculating if Urban Meyer will be OSU's next coach so if that is allowed, I see no reason why this shouldn't be.

I think it's a fair question to ask.

I agree that it's a topic people can discuss if they choose to. I wasn't looking to shut down the thread, all I did was express my own opinion that I'd rather wait before discussing it. Which I tried to make clear by using the word 'personally'. :wink2:

I think I'd rather have any of Calvin Johnson, Samardzija, or Gonzalez instead of Ginn. Ginn is a freakish athlete but he's got too many little red flags, like, Will he go over the middle, Can he catch the ball in traffic or while being bothered by an NFL corner? He doesn't have the world's best hands, nor is he built to take a licking.

I see him as a late first round pick. 15-25 range, depending on his combine and workout showings. And frankly, I think he will be a workout warrior and make scouts drool over his talents. But I don't see it as a guarantee that he'll translate that to the NFL playing field.

If I had to place bets on how his NFL career would shake out, I think Desmond Howard is the place to look. Kickoff returner extraordinaire and trick-play and emergency receiver.

I hope this guy looks better on film than his 3.5 ypc would indicate.

There are red flags on everyone.
DJ is injury prone, CJ is inconsistent (most will agree this is Ball's fault though), and Samardzija...
Samardzija (?) is one of the most over-rated players this year, IMO. All these ESPN "experts" rave about his ideal size and great hands -- but I've seen him drop a LOT of passes against teams with hard-hitting defenses. We also know he is not going to get behind anyone in an NFL secondary. Like CJ, his stats drop off quite a bit in the big games (tOSU, ttun) -- unlike CJ, he can't blame his QB.

See, I think Samardzija can blame his QB though. I'm not impressed with Quinn, because most of his best throws involve putting it more or less up for grabs and letting his receivers go get them. Quinn's stats get worse in the big games too, because (I think) he's not a good QB under pressure.

I think Jarrett is a poor man's Ginn with slightly better hands. I'd probably draft Ginn above him.

You're right about Calvin Johnson. I saw two Georgia Tech games this year and I can't list how many times the announcers would run a replay, circle Johnson who was wide open, and then wonder why Reggie Ball was throwing to the guy in double coverage. Johnson had 1000+ receiving yards this year and would have had 1500 with just about any other quarterback in the country. I think Johnson's the #1 receiver in the draft.

Please don't ever compare a Buckeye to Desmond Howard again.:wink2:
Oops :wink2:

How is Dwayne Jarrett injury prone?

It only takes one injury to raise some flags heading into an NFL draft.
I don't think it will hold him back (as you can see, I said earlier I think he goes as the 2nd WR if the draft is today), but just pointing out that there are questions regarding every player.
