looking at it from Gene's prospective (whether right or not) I think he needs to hire a big name coach, if he hires a no name or a small coach (similar to Tressel) there's gonna be a lot of pissed off people, and not sure he could survive the wait it might take for success

Agreed, after what is going on this year, I'd rather take my chances with an experienced coach that knows how to win. I don't think OSU fanbase would like to go through another year, like this year, anytime soon.

I don't agree on this one. If you start hiring coaches to keep the public off your back you may as well paint a yard sale sign and see what you can get for the uniforms and equipment.

I understand why they gave Fickell the job. And the one year tag makes it pretty clear what the intentions are. That is why I am much more interested in what comes next than what is happening now.

I don't necessarily believe that's the right way, I'm just saying after everything going on, not sure if Gene Smith can afford to hire a small coach and wait for him to succeed, i think he has to generate excitement again

I think it will be a tough season based on saturdays game. I feel the NCAA 's final decision will have an affect on things to come. I sure hope I'm wrong, but I have a defensive wall up right now. There's gonna be alot of smack talk bout OSU and I will be busy deflecting as much as possible.
Bottomline: Growth is gonna hurt!!!
Reality: OSU will bounce back with a vengeance!!!

Its times like these that separate the fair weather fans from the true fans.....

We'll have hindsight to mold our perceptions of how all of this was handled.

But things are bad, really bad.

What I want to see for this season is the coaching staff gaining some control, putting players at ease, helping to keep this team together, and winning some games. Even if they don't win, if they can at least drive down the field and score a few points. The long term effects of running the program in to the ground this year are bigger than ANYONE. We get to go to Lincoln at primetime on Saturday night.

Our offense is Ricky Bobby and it needs to go fast again, it needs to get its nuts back. Lest we want to be running around in our underwear trying to get the imaginary fire off of us.

Lets just get [Mark May] done and get competitive.

No offense, but your analogy is way off base, as it relies on the assumption that Bama and MSU are equally talented teams.
His comparison takes the Alabama>MSU difference into account at least somewhat, because Alabama beat Florida by a far larger margin than MSU beat OSU, at least if you go strictly by final score. But yeah, Alabama would have done some ugly things to OSU if they'd played each other on Saturday.

No, he doesn't take that into account--his whole argument is that because Florida got bombed by Alabama and OSU kept it close against MSU, OSU fans are irrational for calling out the coaching staff (this is made apparent by the fact that he uses Florida fans not calling out Muschamp as evidence of this), thus saying that OSU's coaching staff isn't worthy of such criticism because OSU kept a game close while Florida didn't.

So his argument rests on MSU and Bama being of similar talent. Which, of course, is ridiculous.
