These guys coached with Coach Tressel for a long time. His brother is on the staff still (as far as I know, please correct me if I'm wrong). They probably figure that they're all living on borrowed time till the end of the season.

Is it possible that they don't care about winning games cause they think they're gonna get fired anyway?

There are two scenarios that will happen at the end of the season. Fickell gets contract extension or Fickell gets fired. If Fickell gets fired, the whole staff would not be back, with the exception of Drayton who has coached with the future head coach. If Fickell stays I would assume he would hire his own offensive staff and keep the defense staff together. Anyway I look at it, I don't see Bollman back here next year.

I think every coach is doing there best to win games weather they think they are going to be around or not.

Braxton was dinged in the first game, didn't play in the second and may not have been completely healed, or ready for the third. My guess is that this week is his game.

I hope you're right, but there seems to be a lot of speculation in your post--(1) I don't recall him getting dinged in the Akron game (certainly, he was OK enough to play as called on in that game); (2) you say he may not have been completely healed for the Toledo game, which is clearly speculation; and (3) you say he may not have been ready for the Miami game, which is again speculation.

I'm not trying to rip your post, I'm just pointing out that you're making a lot of assumptions in order to reach the conclusion that the staff thinks Braxton is OSU's #1 QB, despite the fact that they haven't been playing him like it. The more I think about this, the more I think the staff thinks Joe B is the #1 QB, likely because he knows the playbook better and they view him as less mistake prone. I honestly don't expect to see Braxton start this week, and though I do expect him to play, I think Joe B will get the majority of the series, just like he did in the Miami game.

The loss may be a blessing in disguise, in that any new head coach is dreading that first loss, especially at a school like Ohio State. Now that the loss is done and out of the way, Fickell can take more of a "nothing to lose" attitude and open things up more...

We can hope so. But Bollman is still the OC........

I sure hope so. I want to see the defensive aggression (blitzes) that we saw in game one. Though with the way that Colorado likes to sling the ball around, I'd wager we'd play a lot of zone this week. As for the offense, I'm not going to beat a dead horse. :wink2:

He got dinged either during the 1st game or in the practices leading up to Toledo.
Last week, it sounds like he was a big part of the gameplan that wasn't really followed.
This week, it sounds like he is the gameplan.

Getting the majority of the snaps and being given the nod to start, may just be what Braxton needs to step up and shine. He may be a little shaky at first, but if he can settle down and if the coaches put him in right situations to succeed, then we may just see a star in the making.

Completely agree about being a blessing ind disguise, this is a long season, maybe Miami was just a bad game. With all the turmoil of the off-season, if Braxton can make plays for us and gets a chance to I think we will be alright.

The team needs an identity. It starts with Fick. If they want to be a smashmouth, running football team, so be it. Throw away the gimmicks and run play action to the TEs and swings to the backs. If they want a more balanced attack with the possibility of the spread, again, so be it. Pick ONE and make it work. The yoyo shit isnt going to fly.

I would love for Fick to be more fiery and like himself on the sidelines. Let it out and get the boys fired up beside you. Running the football which is by far our strength, is all about attitude. Line up. Punch the guy in the mouth across from you and open some holes. They did that beautifully last week. Stick to it and we've got a better game.

This week is the week to find that identity and go for it.

Sad but true. If only Drayton could take over the play calling.

Guess I am being a jerk here but what in world makes you think Drayton would do any better. Do you have insight to what input he has on the gameplan and in game adjustment? Have you a seen a game in which he was "the guy" calling the plays?

I know it seems simple, but being the man calling the plays is a HUGE task and takes all week to get ready for.

I think we could have had Bill Walsh calling plays last week and I don't we would have executed those plays any better.
