Duke Blue Devils (that rat faced scumbag)

Duke fan visited my facebook page yesterday. He was yucking it up over the Buckeyes loss. Duke fan didn't go to Duke. He hasn't ever been to their campus. He doesn't root for their football team. He only roots for their basketball team.

Am I supposed to respect Duke fan when he takes potshots at my alma mater? I think not. Duke fan is why I hate Duke. It's not Coach K. It's Duke fan.

[censored] Duke.

Sounds like you're talking about TheRobb.

Tournament time is going to be very interesting.

The way the top 10 have played recently, I might bet on another second round ousting of a #1 seed, maybe even the first ever 16.

Well look at each potential #1....

Ohio State has issues when they can't sustain an offensive rhythm.

Duke as always, if they can't hit 3s, they are screwed.

Texas seems to take it easy once they are up and they have a history of tanking in March.

Kansas is a streak shooting team

BYU is Fredette and the 8 dwarfs

Pitt will probably be considered the "overall" number one, but they have a tendency to play down to their opponent as well.

This might be one of those years where a lower seeded team gets hot in March and wins it all like Syracuse did in '03. I'm aware they were a three-seed, but I mean the big boys all look very vulnerable and I don't see any real "chalk" this year. Should make for some interesting pools...

On the flip side of that:

Ohio State can dominate inside to outside better than any other team when Sully/Dallas & Buford/Diebler are on their a-game.

Duke as always, if they ARE hitting 3s, they're extremely dangerous.

Texas has a tendency to get out to HUGE leads and when they play two halves they're easily one of the best teams in the NCAA.

Kansas's Morris twins are BOTH double/double candidates every game.

BYU is Fredette, period.

Pitt is probably the best in the BigEast and if they aren't beaten bloody they will be the most battle tested team in the tourney.

Anyone one of these teams (plus a handful of others) could make a run for the whole thing. It's insane.

Absolutely, but my (and I'd wager many other's) concern is, what are the chances of that happening for six consecutive games? The Bucks chances at a title are gonna lean heavily on the matchups they draw. If they run into a team with a capable big man to get Sully/Dallas into early foul trouble and Buford/Lighty/Diebs have an off game...that's trouble. I think our top-6 trump anybody in the country, but after that we're painfully thin.

I think with the opening round games for all 4 16s this year, the chances of a #1 losing go up from basically zero to probably sometime soon. A team can play really well in the opener, build a bunch of confidence, and if the #1 comes out flat and they hit some 3s, they could easily pull it off.

What's the consensus around here on Steve Lavin? I really like the guy, will I be shunned?

I dunno in general, I don't have a real opinion on the guy other than getting St. John's back to where no one wants to play them (at home, at least) in the deepest conference in the country is a monumental accomplishment.

Same.

When St. John's is good, it's good for basketball as a whole. They've got one of the best "home" court advantages outside of the notable arenas (The Phogg, Rupp, Cameron).

Pitt doesn't play well in the tourney because they face refs that don't let them get away with all the fouls that go uncalled in big east play. as soon as they face a decent opponent with non-BigEast refs, they fold.

Which is nice to see. They were really good when I grew up in Big East country (I always rooted for them over Syracuse, sorry BN27) so I'm glad they are relevant again.
oddly enough, I liked St Johns once I read an SI story about Felipe Lopez when I was in 7th or 8th grade.

they were supposed to be rivals of Syracuse, but a 12 year old doesn't care about that.
