What's the consensus around here on Steve Lavin? I really like the guy, will I be shunned?

He was a really good analyst for ESPN, very fair towards OSU & the Big Ten, and entertaining as well. He does a great job recruiting - signed the #1 class in the nation twice at UCLA, coached a lot of future NBA guys there & has a top-5 class coming to St. John's next season. Coached UCLA for seven seasons, led them to five Sweet 16s in his first six seasons but only one Elite 8 and was fired after his first losing season. Interestingly, his teams at UCLA beat #1 ranked teams 4 years in a row, so his teams do have a penchant for pulling off big wins. But they lost too many games against teams they weren't supposed to lose to at UCLA, and he did some odd things that made him not appear fully committed to his job that put off alumni there (such as work out on an exercise bike on the side at AAU games while "recruiting"). Their loss to #12 seed Mizzou in the Sweet 16 in '02 was fodder for critics because that loss resulted in the only instance in history of a #12 seed making the Elite 8.

I've always liked him. Same with Bilas.

I think Bilas might be one of my favorite analysts from any sport, and I'm not even a big basketball fan (just OSU and the Cavs).

I have found something worse than Dick Vitale calling a Dook game: Mike Patrick calling a Dook game.

Plus, he can't even be bothered to get Brad Brownell's name right - he keeps calling him "Brownlee"

Duke has had comfortable leads, but Clemson has fought back several times.
