Duck Hunters..........

Aside from the kill, what could be fun about duck hunting.

Sorry, I just don't get the whole hunting experience.

Maybe bow hunting for deer, but I just don't get the fun of shooting a deer from 150 yards away with a high powered rifle.

Not a knock on you guys, just my observation.

For me Brutus, duck hunting isn't all about the kill. Yes, I love duck meat , but I just love the marsh. Anyone who enjoys the outdoors and hasn't experienced sunrise in the coastal marsh needs to do so. It would be impossible to explain the speed and grace of these birds, just something you have to see first hand. There have been many times that I've had wads of pintail working the flat I'm on & never picked up my gun, just taken pictures. The "hunting" shows on tv don't even remotely depict the experience.

As far as deer, I love venison.Deer hunting bores me, though. I take one fat doe every year with my rifle for the freezer.

My sentiments exactly (except the coastal marshes part). There have been many times where I used my camera to shoot animals I could have bagged, pictures last longer.
Deer hunting bores me incredibly.....I don't go very often anymore, and when I do I don't try very hard. I'd rather still hunt squirrels or just sneak through the woods than waste a day not moving up in a tree.

It amazes me that people assume (or imply) that all hunters are rednecks, or that they "get off" or "think they're tough" because they like to hunt.
They wouldn't be so tough if the thing they were shooting at shot back.
Would you step on ants if they exploded, tough guy? How about spraying a hornet nest....would you spray a hornet nest if the hornets had nerve gas they could spray back at you?

This thread is almost ready to be moved to the political board.
Not all hunters are rednecks just as not all non hunters are tree huggers.
For those that seem opposed to hunting the best thing you can do for wildlife is buy a hunting license or join Ducks Unlimited or one of the other sportsman's organizations. Of course that is if you are really concerned about wildlife. Many I think just feel the need to protest against something they know little or nothing about.

Hunting as a recreation is on a steep decline. The shooting sports on the other hand are growing by leaps and bounds.

Normally my job requires constant travel with all the noise and stress that goes with it. I enjoy my time in the woods. Like others here have expressed, many times I take a camera and the truth be told I have not killed anything in years. That does not mean that I won't or can't, I just have not chosen to do so recently.

By hunting I am not trying to prove anything to anyone. If you hate me for who I am so be it. I would hate myself for being someone I am not.

Now lets talk about golf which I find totally boring and requires the destruction of acres of good hunting habitat.:)

3yards I loved that cartoon.
