DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

I think Luke is doing a pretty good job. I'm not sold on Meyer for the future and think Luke deserves an opportunity short term. I wasn't sold on Luke at first but he's from the Tressel tree and knows how to win. The only issues I see with Luke would be with recruiting, but winning games can handle that.
I also think the offensive staff is doing what it takes to win games. It's not always going to be "pretty", especially with a young team.

I hate to be bipolar but I do think he is doing a good job. The team is improving when it could have given up a long time ago. Not that it makes up for the defensive collapse but if Miller doesn't get injured I think we beat Nebraska and we look a lot better right now

The go-for-it call on 4th and 1 early in the third quarter was a proper decision (even if they didn't score), but its success ended up being a piece that was needed for the overall win.

The team stayed close in the first half, made some plays in the running game and special teams to get a lead in the third quarter, and then had enough to rally for the win after Wiscy shocked them with 2 quick TDs late in the 4th.

A solid game for Luke as a head coach.

Definitely gave me the warm and fuzzies for his long term viability. Gotta admit though that IF something comes about for his future, then he needs to go a different direction with OC.

Did you just start following tOSU football last night? Luke is a huge reason why they've recruited so well for several years now.

I was just wondering the same thing. His supposed weakness in recruiting has been mentioned previously, however, I recall him being characterized as being the best recruiters on staff after Tressel.

Great win for him last night. I still am not comfortable with Smith being in charge of the department, but if Luke can run the rest of the regular season table I am comfortable with the notion mentioned earlier of keeping him and letting him pick his own staff.

There aren't many guy that could reel in Aldolphus Washington with everything that's going on. Luke, when not handcuffed, is one of the best.

My issue with Luke is his inexperience as a head coach when it comes to recruiting. Other candidates, like everybodys favorite Urban Meyer, have a proven track record to all recruits. Selling yourself as the coach who is going to win championships, send kids to the Nfl, or make sure kids will graduate, is a hard sell without the proven record. There will be a lot of uncertainty with Luke in his first few years, but I still think he can get the job done.

Recruiting would never be my worry with Luke. My concern would be in his choice for his offensive staff. Saban is a defensive guy, but he knows what he wants on offense and demands that identity.

My main concern with Luke...more of a question than a true concern..is if he has developed HIS philosophy yet. Would he try to be JT? Does he know what he wants from his offense? How involved will he be on offense? Is he ready to turn over the defense?

I think Luke Fickell has tremendous potential and has done an amazing job in this situation. Is he ready right now? Who knows...because honestly, who is ever ready for a job on this level? Pete Carroll was a laughingstock before he took the USC job and Charlie Weis was a guaranteed success at ND.

The college coaching game is reliant on so many intangibles that the general public fan does not see.

Is Luke Fickell ready? None of us know...nor can any of us make that call based on the man playing this season with the hand he was dealt.

When Luke starts making actual decisions about the program, then we will know if he is able. Unfortunately, he may never get that chance.

Fickell has done an ok job in an almost impossible situation. If Meyer is willing to come coach here you have to hire him, though. There is no legitimate argument that at this point in each of their careers Fickell is a better candidate for a head coaching job than Meyer is.

If the choice is not as big a no brainer as that (like, say, D'Antonio) and Fickell has won at least 7 games and beaten Michigan, I would bring him back and give him a full chance.

In general, I think they need to look to replace Fickell with a more experienced candidate but I won't be terribly unhappy if they bring him back.

These next two weeks are just as important test-wise for the staff...Indiana and Purdue should be wins. How do you avoid complacency coming off what LF called a "signature win"?

As important as last week's win was, the performance over the next two weeks is just as vital.
