DT Johnathan "Big Hank" Hankins (Seattle Seahawks)

This commit today made zero sense. Why would he accept a Buckeye offer in the AM, and then go to the Meatchicken camp?

Sorry, I am giving this one a big BS. He might end up with the good guys, but it ain't gonna be today, or even soon.

Although I agree the OSU committment after the UM camp wouldn't appear to make much sense, he didn't pick up the OSU offer in the AM....at least, reportedly by this site with numerous people, it's been a couple weeks.

He was at MSU and UM camps I believe and so far neither schools have offered him as of yet. Makes you wonder a little bit if that OSU offer is legit.

Not sure if a UM offer is coming unless UM doesn't pick up the guys higher up on the board for them.

Found this on mgoblog:

"There were quite a few articles out there over the period of a few months leading up to this camp which echoed the sentiment you have expressed above, "Hankins has talent but will need to work his way back into shape by the camp to show his willingness to the coaches." Now, no one saw him for a while (scout/rival people) so all they could go on was what he was saying, that he lost a few pounds here and there and that he was doing well. Then he showed up to camp, and while I was not there personally, if you look at some of the pictures that scout and rivals posted, he looks EXTREMELY out of shape. (There is one where his jersey can't fit over his stomach and is rolled up to just under his chest). While it was pretty plain to see that he was extremely out of shape, this only proves what a phenomenal athlete he is. Playing with an extra 20 lbs (guess) of fat on him, he still managed to impress many people with his ability."

Doesn't make sense that RR wouldn't offer based on the kid being out of shape. If he's got talent, you get him on campus and get him into shape. That's why you have a S&C program, right? There's obviously some other reason the coaches wouldn't offer other than him being out of shape. I mean, Will Campbell has lost like 30 lbs so far, so getting Hankins in shape shouldn't be a problem.

In all fairness, comparing Will Campbell to him is just wrong. Will is and was on an entirely different level in terms of raw physical talent and football talent.

If Hankins went to both UM and MSU camps and didn't leave with an offer from either school that should tell you all you need to know about him IMO.

Especially if Dantonio wouldn't offer him, because Dantonio is a defensive minded guy, and you'd think he'd want as many good defensive players as he can get his hands on.

That is oversimplifying things so much it isn't even funny...

That's the kind of reasoning that has RichRod loading up on 50 slot-dots... Dantonio seems like a smart enough guy to recruit for need.

May I humbly offer that you might have encountered Barwis' limits here...?

The only comparison I was making was that both guys are out of shape. And if Hankins needs to lose 30 lbs, it can be done. I was never comparing their skill level, of which I know nothing about.

A heavy dose of logic and critical thinking skills should be on your to do list.

While his logic isn't exactly flawless, mh is right at least in that it is curious that neither UM nor MSU has offered after seeing him up close. OSU is recruiting on a whole different level than those 2 as of late and it is a bit surprising to see OSU offer a kid in their own backyard without a sniff from them. Plus, what team couldn't use a 300 pound D lineman who can play?

To me, there are 3 possible explanations. The simplest, different staffs sometimes have very different opinions and one staff (in this case OSU) likes a guy way more than other staffs. A bit more in-depth theory is that OSU is experimenting with a 3-4 and could really use a big run stuffer in the middle after getting some smaller guys (Simon, Mobley) in past years. Lastly, I think it is possible that maybe Hankins doesn't truly have a commitable offer right now from the Buckeyes.
