Rivals $ - Hale ready to get it started

12/14

By Noon...enjoyed meeting the other commits and current players...talks about getting to see bowl practice and EGG addressing the players in on their visit...enrolling early along with Braxton Miller, Jeff Heuerman and Jeremy Cash.
Fantastic news, we will need all the help we can get on the defensive front next year and at safety.

He's got serious frame.

He's going to be huge, I am surprised he moves so well for his size.

He reminds me of a cross between Big Hank and Simon. Ideal size and ability to move with said size(Big Hank) and Good weight, agility and power(Simon)

Ohio State football: Lineman follows Simon's example
Freshman hopes hard work leads to early playing time
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Joel Hale already has made one great decision in his quest to earn playing time on the Ohio State defensive line as a freshman, defensive coordinator Jim Heacock said.

Hale decided to shadow John Simon.

What Simon says, Hale does, and what Simon does, Hale tries to do, whether it's in the weight room, in workouts or in the film room. Barely on campus for two months and fresh out of Greenwood, Ind., as a member of the Buckeyes' 2011 recruiting class, Hale aims to accomplish what Simon did two seasons ago: become a contributor right out of the chute.

Hale wants to be the latest first-year player to earn significant time in the defensive line rotation for the Buckeyes.

"Cameron Heyward, Nathan Williams, Johnny Simon and Big Hank (2010 freshman Johnathan Hankins) - they all came in and had an opportunity to compete as true freshmen, and I am looking to follow in their footsteps," Hale said.

It's one reason he left high school as soon as he could, even if he was considered a mere three-star prospect (out of five) by most recruiting services.

"I am one of those under-the-radar guys right now, and I like it," Hale said. "Eventually, I plan on being one of the top dogs as a team. I care about how I compete personally, but being (part of) a great team is more the goal I'm looking for."

Simon was a modest three-star recruit coming out of Youngstown Mooney two years ago, as was Hankins out of Detroit last year.

"I'm just going to follow in their footsteps," Hale said.

Sounds like Joel Hale is gonna be an absolute beast

update from Brandon Castel O-Zone

Biggest Beast of 6am workout?

Has to be freshman Joe Hale. The kid should be a senior in high school right now and absolutely dominated both John Simon and Nate Williams in the "band war" drill, which Lichter called his favorite drill.
For those not familiar with the drill, two guys enter a circle and they are banded together. One guy has to drag the other guy out of the circle using brute strength.
Hale worked Simon twice, went and puked in the trash can then rallied to beat Nate Williams.....

he was listed at 6 4 310 and he looks great and wants to lose weight. Maybe, he wants to be Simons little/bigger brother :) Him, Hankins Simon and Williams sounds like a nice D-line in the rotations.

Yes, and 2 guys named Goebel and Bellamy ain't too shabby either on the D line. We're looking at some great depth here fellas:osu:

OSU freshman football players Joel Hale, Jeff Heuerman make splash in their 1st Mirror Lake jump

Freshman defensive lineman Joel Hale blocks freshman Jeff Heuerman during Ohio State's Spring Game on April 23. The offense won, 59-27.

Even Ohio State football players couldn't escape the celebration of Osama bin Laden's death Sunday night.

Freshman defensive lineman Joel Hale and freshman tight end Jeff Heuerman joined the mass of OSU students at Mirror Lake, and jumped in to celebrate the death of the terrorist leader.

Hale said he hadn't heard the news when Heuerman came into his room.

"I was laying down and I was basically asleep Sunday night, and my buddy Jeff (Heuerman) came and woke up me and said, ?Hey, let's go down to Mirror Lake,'" Hale said.

Even as the two were walking to the lake, Hale still didn't know why they were going.

"I had no idea what was happening," he said. "I thought we were going to get food at Mirror Lake."

Center Grove's Jole Hale rides above Ohio State turmoil
May. 31, 2011

Joel Hale's college football career at Ohio State has been nothing like he imagined it would during its first few months. But the former Center Grove standout said today he doesn't have any plans to ask school officials to release him from his scholarship.

"When you're in the situation I'm in, that's always going to be in the back of your mind,'' Hale said today."But whenever I committed to Ohio State, I'll always be a Buckeye. That's the way I've approached it.''
