He said he was a real boy too....

Anyway, does anyone expect GG to redshirt next year? We return all 4 (and have a couple that can slide down) but I feel his talent level is so high he might be able to sneak in some reps.

I don't. He brings too much, now.

I am of the believe that either Garrett or Shaq will play next year, and one of them along with Mobley will redshirt to get a little seperation...

I think that both Mobley and Goebel are likely to play next year, especially Mobley. Rowell seems like the best bet of any of the 2008 guys to redshirt. He barely played defense in high school and he is a DT exclusively with our top 4 DTs all returning.

Mobley and Goebel will have to compete with guys like Barrow and Solomon Thomas, but one of them could emerge as the #4 guy, especially if Rose plays a little bit of DT.

I would be very surprised to see Garrett redshirt next year. He has the size and motor to be an immediate impact player and he also appears (most importantly) to have the desire and work ethic.

He may end up at DT, but I could see him getting reps at strongside DE to give Heyward a rest. Rose recently had shoulder surgery on one arm and is about to have it on the other so there is no guarantee he will be ready to go next year meaning GG could be Heyward's primary backup.

The D-line will be very versatile next year with the ability to show many different looks with speed rushers like Thomas and Gibson or power rushers like Heyward and Goebel. I would qualify Wilson as a hybrid guy with a good mix of both (not to say the others don't posses speed/power).

This is a highlight video sent to BP by the Goebels. The sheet they sent with the disc reads (in part) as follows:

Garrett Goebel DT-DE/OL, 6'5" 278 lbs. Montini Catholic High School

Defensive Stats - 2007 season
Goebel had 68 tackles, 24 tackles for a loss, eight sacks, three forced fumbles and five passes knocked down while playing all up + down the line primarily in three man Def. front.

Offensively - 2007 season
Goebel gave up ZERO QB sacks in his (3) three years playing left OT for varsity team. This past season he had over 75 "pancake blocks" many times making two 'cakes on the same play!!

Quote from Ohio Coach "Garrett is the best DT in the nation in all our minds and that will not change. He is the meanest and the toughest. And I can't wait till he is suited up in his new Scarlet and Grey armor and just crushing every ball carrying unlucky fool that we face."

I believe we will be breaking this disc up into individual YouTube and larger/higher quality video files (assuming Mili is still on board for doing this). In the meantime, if anyone wants to see the full DVD, it's available here as an .iso.

I doubt if either Garrett or Mobley will start, but I am sure they will work into the two deep and get alot of playing time. They will be a huge addition and will make our D-line much more effective. IMO:oh:

Looking forward to an XP update since Garrett Goebel said his uncle was there.

Looking forward to that, too.

My love/hate relationship w/the recruiting services continues:
Rivals drops our boy, GG , down, (who did not play any postseason showcase games probably because he's a world class caliber star of the mats, which is, oh by the way, a very useful and, can only enhance your development, skill as a DT), to 6th on their list of DT's, from 4th, and moves Armond Armstead, a USC verb of all the hated things to me personally, who did play in postseason showcase games, up to 3rd from OL!!

Just irritated, thats all. I know it doesn't matter, but.....and forgive the grammatical gibberish.

I'm sure GG's decision to not play in the "Under Armour All-Galaxy" game due to his wrestling commitments negatively affected his ranking however what I find odd is that Rivals NOW has GG ranked #1 Player in ILLINOIS.....I guess Rivals has STATE RANKINGS figured out correctly anyways.

These recruiting services are goofy aren't they? It seems nationally they are trying to sell subscriptions and more locally they are a little more in touch with reality. Great news on GG getting his due for his dominating play on both sides of the ball.

By the way one of the recruiting services did the same thing with Mike Adams, I believe he was rated very high in the Midwest region, but comparatively low nationally (until he beat all comers in San Antonio)

I was fortunate enough to be invited along with my 13 yr. old son. We were unable to attend dinner but made it to Garrett's for desert. Almost instantly Garrett began recounting some of our recruiting visit stories which brought laughter upon all (Including the Tressel's) however the most hilarious (yet slightly demented) story Garrett told was about an early visit to Iowa. Garrett's father (my oldest bro, Greg) has a horrific snoring problem (in which he is often in denial about) therefore Garrett & I are constantly seeking ways in which to avoid total sleep deprivation while traveling with Garrett's father. On this trip I brought a 800,000 volt "stun gun" which Garrett & I agreed to use to awake a snoring roomate. We put this on my brothers "big toe" 30 minutes after lights out and the arc / flash fully lit the room, boom!! a 2nd time for a few seconds.....Did not even awake the big guy!!!.The following morning he refused to believe we actually used this on him......until he witnessed the welts / burn marks. Thank GOD these recruiting trips are past history!!!

JT's story of his fraternity intramural wrestling experience was a "classic" which clearly displayed his dedication & sacrifice to be victorious in any competitive challenge that stood in his path (After hearing this story it was obvious why he and his players are continually succeeding in the game of football & the game of "life")

Amazingly enough, they do get it right once in a while. That plus, it looks like Steven Filer fell slightly from grace, in Rivals eyes, in the IL category because he DID participate in postseason play.
