Worthington Heading To OSU This Weekend

Date: Jun 16, 2005

The freshmen are starting to file in. The next one who will be getting his college career underway is defensive lineman Doug Worthington, who will be starting classes in the coming days. Dave Biddle caught up with Worthington for some quick words before he heads off to Ohio State.

Doug Worthington was expected to play in the New York vs. New Jersey Governor's Bowl last weekend, but decided to pull out of the all-star game.

"I didn't go," Worthington said. "It was my last weekend in New York before coming to Columbus, so I decided to stay here. Plus, there was a problem with the flight plans. I wouldn't have got back until Monday morning."

(Fellow Ohio State recruit Malcolm Jenkins was also scheduled to play in the Governor's Bowl.)

Worthington will arrive in Columbus this Saturday to begin summer quarter.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I'll miss my friends around here, but I'll make new friends. And I'm just ready to get my college days going."

Worthington was planning on living with OSU offensive lineman Kyle Mitchum this summer, but says his plans have changed.

"There is a new rule that I can live in the dorms if I'm taking a full-load of classes," Worthington said. "So, I'm going to live with Alex Boone, or Robby (Schoenhoft) or one of the other guys that is coming in early in the dorms."

The 6-7, 255-pound Worthington says he has been working out hard since basketball season ended. He has set a goal of not redshirting this season at OSU.

"I just want to get some playing time," he said. "There are a lot of good D-linemen in front of me, but I just want to work hard, learn my role and play a little bit this year. It's on me though. It will come down to how hard I work this summer."

Refuted: Where is Worthington?

I have been looking around to see who has posted the most recent OSU roster. The only place I can find a roster without Coleman is on BSB, so I am guessing their's is the latest. Problem is that there are 106 names on that roster and none of them is Doug Worthington.

Am I just reacting like a newbie or is there something going on here?

You know us newbie's, we need constant reassurance, so help me out.

The 'Official' Roster is from 21 July and still has RJ Coleman on it. That roster was three weeks ago and things can change when it is time to report.

The BSB roster does not have Coleman, leading me to believe it might be more current. I will feel better when I see the Official site updated to reflect the 105 men who reported to camp.
