DT Dexter Larimore (official thread)

Let's face it, he's a wrestler. Like Hockey players they are a different breed. I once saw an Illinois wrestler in the NCAA tournament wrestle with a torn pectoral muscle. He won the NCAA title despite the injury. DL took some abuse earlier in the season against Navy. I'm sure he will be full strength after 2 week off.

-- DT Dexter Larimore pretty much is out for the rest of October with the sprained knee. Surgery will not be necessary. That's a longer absence than what was first indicated.

Interestingly, though, OSU might take him to Purdue, as its close to his hometown of Merrillville, Ind. -- a favor to him and his family. He would count against the allowed 70-player limit, though, so they're not sure about that yet.

Merrillville grad Larimore's solid season put on hold at Ohio State
Merrillville grad has missed two straight games with knee sprain
BRIAN PELOZA - Times Correspondent | Posted: Sunday, October 18, 2009

WEST LAFAYETTE | Amid fans swarming the field, injured Ohio State defensive tackle Dexter Larimore sought out Purdue defensive tackle and fellow Merrillville grad Mike Neal.

"He wanted to congratulate me on the win," Neal said after Purdue's 26-18 victory over No. 7 Ohio State. "I was concerned about what happened to him. I just told Dexter to get his butt back on the field, so he can get ready to play some more football."

Larimore missed his second straight game with a sprained right knee. He traveled with the team to West Lafayette, but did not dress.

"It's very disappointing, but my injury could have been a lot worse," Larimore said. "I'm just happy it wasn't a season-ending injury and I'll be back."

Larimore said he may be back for next week's game against visiting Minnesota. He has 17 tackles this season, which was tied for fifth-most on the team at the time of his injury.

"Obviously you always want to do better, but I was having a pretty decent season," Larimore said. "I've been doing rehab and watching a lot more film. I've been able to learn how to really dissect offenses and learn our defense even more. Hopefully when I get healthy it will translate into my game."

Larimore has steadily progressed during his career at Ohio State. He started one game as a freshman and had 16 tackles. Last season, Larimore was a rotating starter, before becoming a full-time starter this season.

"I always like to work for what I get," Larimore said. "I was never one of those guys that runs a 4.5 or benches all of this, I've always had to work for what I get.

"I don't really like to be given things. I never liked that kind of idea. I like being able to work my way up."

Other Injury News

Along with Herron, one other major piece of the puzzle missing from the lineup the past three weeks has been nose tackle Dexter Larimore. Injured in the second half of the game against Indiana, Larimore won?t be available to play against New Mexico State but could be back as early as next week.

?Dexter?s not back, but he was back practicing. Doing some drill work, not live contact,? Tressel said.

Back in Action: OSU defensive lineman Dexter Larimore has been out of action several weeks due to a knee strain, but Larimore will likely be back in action against Penn State.

I think he will be back next week," said Defensive Coordinator Jim Heacock.

"I think he's going to be back.

"He's been out running around a little bit and he's feeling pretty good about himself right now."

Larimore's absence opened up some opportunities for a couple of other Buckeyes over the past couple of weeks.

"I thought Todd Denlinger came in and was admirable in the way that he played and also that Johnny Simon came along and got a chance to get some reps and play," said Heacock, but Heacock is still anxious to get Larimore back onto the field.

"I think Dex is an outstanding nose guard that is a physical guy that we need inside that can help get a push," Heacock said.

Great news...having both Larimore and Boren back will be a huge boost to our interior DL and OL, which is quite necessary against Penn State.

Definitely agree!! Both bring an added degree of talent, strength and nastiness that we will need against PSU. Boren is our best OL and Larimore is our best DT. Hopefully they will both be as close to 100% as possible and will prove to be difference makers on Saturday.
