OSU's Cameron Heyward has a simple goal: 'The most dominant who ever played'

Cameron Heyward tormented Penn State QB Daryll Clark on this 2009 pass play. The OSU defensive tackle is expected to be one of the nation's best when the Buckeyes get underway this fall.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With spring football behind them and national title hopes ahead, the Ohio State Buckeyes have three months to work out and gameplan before fall practice begins.
One idea for success is simple: Get the Buckeyes' best player on the field more often.
Defensive coordinator Jim Heacock estimates that a year ago, Cameron Heyward played about 60 percent of the defense's snaps. He was part of a defensive line rotation that went nine deep and included a second unit that could have started for some of the Buckeyes' opponents.

?I?m definitely happy with what I?ve done so far, but I?m not satisfied," said Cameron Heyward. "I still want a national championship. I think everybody on this team does."

? Doug LesmerisesFive players -- starters Thaddeus Gibson and Doug Worthington and backups Lawrence Wilson, Robert Rose and Todd Denlinger -- are gone. Heacock's solution includes a larger dose of someone who may be the best defensive lineman in college football.
"We're going to ask him to play a lot more," Heacock said. "We'd like to get him in that 80 to 90 percent range. He loves to play, so he's excited about that opportunity, and it'll give him the chance to get into the flow and do some more things, I think."
Top 10 prospects for 2011
2. DL Cameron Heyward, Ohio State (6-5, 288)
There isn’t much this guy can’t do. He’s strong enough to anchor at the point of attack as both a 3-4 or 4-3 DE and also possesses the get-off burst to shoot gaps and penetrate inside. He will likely end up being on just about every team’s draft board and looks like a potential blue-chip defensive lineman in any scheme.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State senior defensive lineman Cameron Heyward Tuesday was named to the 2010 Playboy Preseason All-America Football Team.
Heyward, who also has been named to the preseason Lombardi and Lott Trophy watch lists, led the Buckeyes with 6.5 sacks and had 10 TFL for Ohio State's Top 5-ranked defense in 2009. He led all defensive linemen with 46 tackles and had his best game of the year with 9.0 tackles and 2.0 sacks in the win at Penn State.
A 2009 Second Team All-Big Ten selection, Heyward will anchor a defensive line that loses five off the unit from last year, including Thaddeus Gibson and Doug Worthington - 18.0 tackles-for-loss and 6.0 sacks between them - and part-time starter Todd Denlinger (4.0 and 2.0, respectively) the most significant losses to overcome.
Heyward and the Buckeyes open the 2010 season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 against Marshall at Ohio Stadium.
This year marks the 54th year of the Playboy All-America Team, the direct descendent of the original All-America as conceived by Walter Camp back in the 1890's.
