DT Antwuan Jackson (St. Louis Battlehawks)

With Sprinkle and Hill leaving after this season I wonder if Jackson is an option later on. Or if the ship has sailed and he stays south
He sailed his ship away from OSU when they were whiffing consistently at DT. Now in the two classes since his wayward choice:

#1 DT Vincent
#4 DT Garrett
#18 DT Cage

+ more in 2018, like #10 DE* Smith, #28 DT Silvera, etc.

I'm purely speculating here, but I think he missed the boat (outside of a grayshirt situation). They're turning away a LOT of guys who are high 4-stars that are #8-15 at their position, and those guys have 5 years left.

Auburn callously blocked defensive tackle Antwuan Jackson from transferring to Ohio State, whom fiercely recruited the four-star Georgia prospect out of high school.

Jackson appealed the ruling and was denied, a verdict he rightly called "unfair." Instead, he will head to Blinn Community College (famously known as the school that turned around Cam Newton's career).

The Buckeyes will reportedly recruit him after the season.

From 247sports.com:

In checking with sources inside the WHAC, it appears the Buckeyes definitely will recruit Jackson again. The Scarlet and Gray would like to add another defensive tackle to the Class of 2018 next to Taron Vincent, and Jackson is a guy who would be seen as more game-ready versus an incoming high school senior.

And in talking to people on the Jackson side of things, it appears if OSU pushes for the talented defensive tackle, that Columbus could very well be his eventual landing spot. South Carolina is probably running second, but one source said "there's no doubt Ohio State is Antwuan's first choice right now."

I'm all for going after Jackson. But @jwinslow, would you not rather have a kid that has college and JUCO experience over a kid coming from HS? I mean both are crap shoots, but at least one has played against college level talent and is ready to step right in, while the other may need 1-2yrs(if not sometimes more) to get to that level of readiness

If Jackson blooms into a stud in juco ball, then he's certainly worth considering, especially since he'd be one of the late surprises (relatively speaking) to join the class later.

If Jackson remains a similar prospect as he is now (good not great in HS, redshirted and washed out at Auburn), I'm not sure he outclasses the guys they have coming in. If he were a 2014 recruit and did this a few years ago, that would be a different story, back when they missing on Lawrence, Lawrence, Wilkins, etc. and were signing Landers, Hamilton, Munger (with Dre'Mont being a question mark as a tweener with upside).

Jackson would arrive at OSU in 2018, which is his third year of eligibility, meaning if he has any struggle transitioning (which is highly likely), he may not contribute until year 4 as a RS Junior.

So, in other words... he may not be a take when he's on the market again.

UFM hasn't put a lot of stock into JC players. Why? Seems to me that they have 'used' one or two years of eligibility, and unless they're really special, will have to wait a year or two to make an impact. OK, makes sense. Besides, there have been a few 'busts' (said loosely), such as Pridgeon, that came in as highly touted Juco's that cannot come in and contribute right away. Having said that, I'd rather have a kid come in, steep himself in Buckeye lore and D or O philosophies, and spend a couple of winters under Mariotti's tender mercies in the weight room. We'lll see how Sheffield plays this year. Hope he pans out and plays great. As to a one-and-done, well good. That gives the Odukah's and the other CBs time to get their feet under them and contribute for 2-3 years. But you gotta love the SEC for singling out tOSU to restrict their players from transferring to. Shows that UFM is making an impact on those SEC boys.......gotta love it... Go Bucks!
