Is Adolphus Washington the best athlete in the country?
The 6-foot-4, 260-pound senior at Taft (Cincinnati, Ohio) is bound for U.S. Air Force All-American recognition after racking up 23.5 sacks and 90 tackles en route to earning Division III Lineman of the Year honors in Ohio.
Now he has taken his talents to the hardwood, where he's an integral part of Taft's basketball team, which is playing in the prestigious City of Palms tournament.
Washington, who is committed to Ohio State for football, sees the advantages of playing both sports.
"Playing defensive end helps me with my footwork and my speed on the court," he told the Naples Daily News. "Basketball helps with my athleticism, plus it keeps me in shape."
As a junior, Washington earned Junior All-American honorable mention after averaging 19.1 points and 14.2 rebounds per game.
Taft currently sits at 3-1 on the season after narrowly losing to Grace Prep (Arlington, Texas) at the City of Palms.
If Taft enjoys another fine season on the hardwood, Washington could be the favorite for National Athlete of the Year honors this spring.
