DT Adolphus "Diesel" Washington (Official Thread)

oh wow. that should have been defensive holding/pass interference. Receiver for Taft had him beat deep into the endzone and he got grabbed from behind. wow that would have at least tied it.

edit: and now Taft throws an INT into the endzone. Friendly is going to win, even though neither team really played well. Taft turned it over and couldn't move the ball on offense. Friendly didn't do much on Offense (thanks to Washington) and had 17 penalties.

My mistake before. The young man from Friendship is Goldman, not Golden. He's a very good player, but he totally outmatched the Taft line. It would be great to see him match up against an offensive lineman more up to his size and talent. I was also impressed by the CB that was covering Stanford, but, again, he didn't have too many opportunities because the Taft line was collapsing immediately all day.

Taft actually got the ball back and with great field position they had a chance from around the 25 yard line with 1 second left. Tafts young QB though threw it underneath and the receiver had to dive and made the catch at around the 10. Coach was obviously upset with him and without hearing the conversation I am sure it went "why didn't you throw it up for one of the country's best WR's in Stanford?!"

Kid for Friendly you're thinking of was Tabor (or something close to that). He's only a sophmore but has offers from Tennessee, Clemson, and a couple other big programs. After that game he'll get a lot more attention.

Washington's numbers per the TV announcers were 14 Tkls. 2 Sacks 2 TFL, 1 FF. Washington is definitely a manchild. He was probably in on over 60% of the plays and even came in on the last play of the game at receiver. I was really impressed with his size, speed and pursuit to the football. Stanford looked kinda thin he'll have to put on some muscle where ever he goes.

Washington spent a lot of time in the backfield. Constantly pressuring the QB and making him have bad throws. Broke though the line a couple of times with little effort. Opposing QB pretty much took every play and ran away from Washington's side of the line. Hoping he comes to OSU.

I didn't see the game, but it sounds like Washington had a good game. How does his game compare to last years stud Clowney?

I don't think I've ever seen a DE as dominant as Clowney. He's so good, I fully expect him to make a big impact in the SEC as a true freshman. Washington has great speed and athleticism for a guy his size, but Clowney was on another level, IMO. I was really impressed with Washington's motor. There were several plays where he got into the backfield, the ball was still moved forward for a gain, and Washington had enough speed and a high enough motor to catch up to the play 5, 10, or 20 yards beyond the line of scrimmage and make the tackle from behind. He also made some key blocks in the running game on the offensive side of the ball, but he's clearly going to be an impact player on defense.

I don't think AW is Clowney, but if ESPN has AW ranked as only the 12th best DE in the country, I want to see the other 11.

I thought the exact same thing. He is the real deal. Was all over the field, even making plays that were way down the other side of the field that were not his responsibility. Early in the game they tried his side but as the game progressed you could tell they were very aware where he was lining up. Also consider that the number two player overall, according the espn, while good seemed to have less impact again a less talented OL with Taft.

So far the only clearly elite players I have seen on the espn games were Washington and D. Beckham-Green (spelling) the WR.

I thought Eddie Goldman was pretty dominant.
