DT Adolphus "Diesel" Washington (Official Thread)

I thought Eddie Goldman was pretty dominant.

I agree, but against what? If you took AW, and DS off the Taft team, IMHO, they would have trouble playing .500 football against the Cleveland inner city schools. The fact that AW as a junior recorded 107 tackles and 19 sacks, with no help is remarkable :)

He's not Clowney but he's special. Looked better than what I saw from Mario Edwards last night.

His work rate is spectacular and looks kinda skinny at 260. He will be a 290 lb freak.

From seeing mostly every other kid in consideration for #1 besides Warren Ball in a game, I think AW is the clear #1.

Normally I would consider those tackle numbers inflated for a H.S. DL but he was chasing down every play out there even screens 20-30 yards down field.

I tend to believe those numbers. Today he was credited with 14 tackles, below is Wade's post from page 3. Twenty tackles in that game, he makes plays all over the field.

. . .
With four minutes remaining, star defensive end Adolphus Washington forced a fumble to setup Taft on the Friendship 46-yard line.
. . .
Washington, Taft?s other big-time college prospect, made a nice showing in a game televised by ESPNU. He had two sacks ? both on fourth-down plays ? for a combined loss of 20 yards.

?I think I underestimated No. 11,? Friendship coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim said of Washington. ?I think he is a (heck) of a player. He?s got a motor.?

^^ This!

He was an absolute freak...standing on the sidelines I watched him fight through a double team off the right end and then continue from 5 yards deep in the backfield chase that screen to other side of the field and make the tackle 15-20 yards down field...he must have covered 40-50 yards total on the play. To see that much God given ability WORK that hard said a bunch about the kid. I wanted him before...I want him even more now.

DE Washington not only sacks, but he scores, too

In Taft's season opener, playing in front of a national audience, ESPNU 150 DE Adolphus Washington looked like the best player on the field.

That afternoon, Taft's offense could get little done and the Senators lost.

This past Friday, though, Washington made sure the Senators didn't lose, even though they lost their top offensive weapon, in four-star receiver Dwayne Stanford II, to a high ankle sprain.

With the score tied 20-20, Washington picked off a pass and ran it back 26 yards for a touchdown, which proved to be the game-winning score.

"It was a screen pass we watched on film," Taft coach Mike Martin said. "The guy looked at him, pumped it, then threw it right to him."

Washington ended any chance of a comeback minutes later when he sacked quarterback Tyler Marrs on third down. It was Washington's third sack in the fourth quarter alone.

What were his stats?

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/

Taft (2-1) at Withrow (1-2)

WHEN/WHERE:
7:30 p.m. Friday at Withrow

WHAT TO WATCH: The Senators open defense of their Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference championship against the team they dethroned and the team most capable of dethroning them. Do-everything tight end-defensive-end Adolphus Washington returned an interception 26 yards for the game-tying touchdown and logged nine tackles and four sacks in Taft's come-from-behind win last week at Indian Hill. He'll lead the effort at slowing down Withrow junior quarterback Sam E. Williams, who leads the CMAC with 788 passing yards. His favorite target is senior wide receiver Dionte Riley, who leads the conference with 18 catches and 315 yards.

BOTTOM LINE:
Taft's defense is too much.
