Donald Sterling and his comments

The point I was making was more the sentiment that black people doing better = white people doing worse, or possibly some white people enjoying some percieved superiority, as the "sentiement" was that white people will be fine, as if most actually care. My guess is that the only ones that will feel like "its all slipping away" are ones who actually think they stand to lose...

If you don't think inequality and growth are different, maybe the social marxist rant wasn't far off.

It's a basic philosophy of some, not just whites, that there "isn't enough to go 'round." We are the riches country in the world! There is plenty for all. It's just our "priorities". As a Christian based society, our "priorities" are set in the Bible. We can find "common ground" of that I have no doubt. If we can't even talk to each other without it becoming hatefully dogmatic, how will this democracy survive? It won't.

Maybe there is something to that; except that I've never viewed it as white guilt. I've always viewed as white luck. Appreciate the fact that you were born white in America. That's the lottery. But also realize that great fortunate does come with some obligation to give back. (again, venturing down a digression)

I agree that I dont feel any guilt either but that wasnt really the point. I was just stating that it does seem there are groups out there with growing influence who do seem to be interested in shaming people because they "hit the lottery" and as you said previously, these pride groups are formed by people who are tired of being told to be ashamed of something that is out of their control and is just a matter of birth.

I think you may be on to something here. I can tell you, as someone who dines out for most of my meals and have gotten to know young people working in the service industry, there's lots of young white kids who are too young to remember back when say coming out as gay could hurt your career or maybe it was more acceptable and mainstream to make jokes about PoC who feel kind of hurt for feeling they're bad people for simply being white. There is some resentment by some while others have swallowed the pill and do believe that maybe they are in fact guilty by association for past transgressions against certain victim groups even though it was before they were born and they themselves have never participated in any of these acts and feel guilty for this perceived privilege.
I will admit that sometimes I do let some things slip that could be taken the wrong way. This weekend while I was in San Diego I took my dark skinned latina girlfriend to a very nice Italian restaurant in the lily white South Park neighborhood, probably not a PoC besides her for a good square mile or two. It was pretty full so we agreed to be served at the bar which was along side the restaurant outside, kind of out of view. Our service was a bit spotty but this was due to our location and the fact that one server was waiting on the whole patio. I joked to my girl that if she had been a few shades lighter that we might have gotten a better table. She laughed but I did kind of feel bad for saying it.
I'm not sure how i feel about a white pride parade and I know that I wouldn't participate in it. I have to say though that I don't think this forced diversity and tolerance thing is working out too well.

Anything that comes easy, ain't worth a damn!"

I actually had an experience two weeks ago in Pickerington. This guy had been at the corner of 256 and the Taylor Road extension for at least a few hours. When I got to the red light, because that light always seems to be red, I rolled down my window and said I would give him $20 if I could take him down to the Kohl's where I knew they had a job for a guy to load/unload their trucks just waiting for someone to walk in and apply.

He flat out refused to do so and told me to fuck myself. So much for charity I guess.

I use my judgement. If it looks like someone who's incapable of taking care of themselves I'll give them a few bucks. If it's an able bodied person I just tell them not today. Where I work there a park across the street where drug addicts hang out, they don't get nothing from me. There's a lot of young people too that hang out asking for money, not a damn thing wrong with them, some are even smoking cigarettes with their hand out. I tell them to fuck off.

Had the guy said something like "Hey I've hurt my leg/back/etc" or if he clearly had some sort of physical handicap, I would have given him the $20 and been on my way. But he didn't. Instead he basically replied with a "How dare you" type of response.

I was at a gas station once and this young cocky fuck was going around asking for change. He got to me and I told him that I didn't have anything. He persisted with something like "not even a penny?". I told no and went about my business. I had to go inside for something and he was buying a soda, he pulled out a pretty fat wad out of his pocket. I was behind him, he didn't notice me, I asked him if he had any spare change. He kind of grimaced and left.

It's not lame if you've been told to be embarrassed or ashamed of it. In that sense, "pride" has an obvious purpose.

I get this, but I don't agree that it's not lame nonetheless. People have forgotten "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." Someone tells me that about some characteristic of mine and unless they're actually right, it reflects on them, not on me. Be proud of what you do or don't do, maybe even what you choose to believe, but not some stuff that results from an accident of birth.
