I'm so disgusted with this I can't even comment. Makes our tatoo transgressions look very pedestrian. Better not say it that way... very innocent.

No, that sounds about right.localyokel;2031657; said:OMG! OMG! OMG! I'm listening to HLN interviewing a Penn State student & had to laugh/choke out loud. The kid stated that they're all wearing blue on Saturday with white ribbons...in support of child abuse.
Gotta go see if I can on-demand restart that...Maybe I ddn't hear it right.
That's exactly what the crowd last night was supporting, so who knows.localyokel;2031657; said:OMG! OMG! OMG! I'm listening to HLN interviewing a Penn State student & had to laugh/choke out loud. Fair enough, but I think there's a valid distinction to be drawn between the squeamishness of third parties who have nothing directly to do with the situation, and the possible squeamishness of parties who were directly involved as first-hand or second-hand witnesses. And while I agree with you that people have a general duty to know what they're talking about before they open their mouths (or tap on their keyboards), a person can be aware of Sandusky's (and McQueary's/Paterno's/Curley's/Schultz's/possibly Spanier's) activities over the relevant timeline, of McQueary's statement that he observed sodomy, and Paterno's statement that he wasn't informed of sodomy, of Curley's obfuscations and so forth, without all the details. Maybe that squeamishness is a weakness that lessens one's opinion value. From my perspective, the precise details of Sandusky's predations aren't essential to an accurate understanding of what went wrong, and who did wrong. Maybe I'm mistaken in that.BB73;2031628; said:There's another issue I have with the human tendency to want to avoid reading those disturbing passages, and/or be squeamish when discussing these things.
If McQueary would have clearly told JoePa what he told the grand jury, that a naked Sandusky was anally raping a boy about 10 years old in the Penn State football facility showers; and if JoePa had clearly passed that information on (or allowed McQueary to be present at the Sunday morning meeting with the AD and VP to do so as the actual eyewitness), there would have been no doubt about the fact that they needed to have the police open an investigation, and they wouldn't be able to parse words or say they misunderstood what was alleged by McQueary, as they are now doing as they're contesting the legal charges against them.
So why wasn't McQueary at the meeting with the AD and the VP? Possibly because he was embarrassed talking about it. Possibly because JoePa wanted to control the flow of information in an attempt to cover up the incident and/or shield Sandusky, his longtime friend.
But not talking plainly and openly about what was seen by McQueary could be a possible factor in having allowed Sandusky to avoid investigation and abuse a few more boys between 2002 and 2009, so I'm not very keen on squeamishness.

OTOH, it would be a really good time to cuff him and lead him off on a perp walk.FCollinsBuckeye;2031655; said:Actually, the PR could get worse. They could wait until the crowd has gathered at Beaver Stadium on Saturday morning to announce JoePa has been fired and will not coach the game.

Make no mistake, the circus has descended on State College.

JoePa: Wha? I don't know nothin about no baby goats or donkeys... who the hell let them in the gym? The lion is the mascot. It'll eat them. Have you ever had goat milk? It's great!..
But while it's hard to see the bigger picture in the middle of the firestorm, it's also shortsighted to think that history will entirely forget the rest of Paterno's 46-year career. Some may find that taboo to say at this particular moment, when the news of Sandusky's alleged crimes is still fresh and many are still waiting for Paterno to fully address what happened in 2002. People aren't ready to put down the pitchforks just yet, and I'm not saying they should.
And yet, distance and perspective will eventually create a more nuanced legacy. The record will show that Paterno won more games than any other coach and that his teams annually graduated more players than any other public school. Video clips and photos will forever immortalize his black shoes and spectacles. The library on Penn State's campus, for which he helped raise $13 million, will still stand, and a university to which he devoted not only his entire adult life but $4 million of his own money will continue to educate generations of students.
He's right that people will care less later on, though. How many people heard about Michael Jackson's "sleepovers," and when is the last time you heard him mentioned on TV as anything other than the King of Pop?MililaniBuckeye;2031696; said:Searched for "Mandel" in this thread to see if this has been posted yet:
Horrific closing chapter shouldn't overshadow Paterno's entire career
Fuck "distance and perspective", Mandel. This fuck knew for over a decade that a predotory pedophile was roaming freely amongst the campus and did jack fuck about it because it could jeopardize his pursuit of the all-time wins record.
