Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly had a press conference that was shown live on ESPN, between 1 and 1:30 ET on ESPN.

During Q&A, she covered a couple of legal points:

The statute of limitations on sexual abuse cases allows charges to be brought up until the juvenile victims reach age 50.

It is not necessary to have the victim of a sexual abuse crime testify in a case where there's an eyewitness to the abuse. As an aside, they are aware of the identity of 6 of the 8 victims, but not the kid that was in the showers in 2002 when McQueary saw Sandusky assaulting him.

They put out 2 phone numbers, asking specifically for that 2002 victim to come forward, and for anybody else with other information to contact them.

She said that JoePa fulfilled his legal obligation and was "not a target" of the investigation. When asked about President Spanier, she didn't say that, she said that the investigation was ongoing.

It was fairly easy to tell that Kelly (and State Police Commissioner Noonan) were disgusted with the behavior (and inaction) of the folks in charge at Penn State. They talked about sexual abuse victims being scarred for life, and stated that those officials not reporting the incident in 2002 likely allowed other boys to be victimized.

And the sad thing that no one is really mentioning is, Joe likely could have taken care of that with one phone call. Not to the police. Not to the AD. But to Jerry Sandusky. He worked with the man for 3 decades. He could have called him up and said "Jerry, this horrible thing is being reported about you, and in fact someone saw you doing it...either you turn yourself in to face an investigation, or I will. It will likely go better for you if you do it yourself."

Encouraging him to turn himself might have worked, facing certain investigation at the behest of Mr. Penn State himself...and if it didn't, he either calls the police himself, or takes McQ down to the station to make a report since he's the one that saw it. 8 years of abuse is saved. Everyone else saves face, and looks plausible saying they were shocked and turned him in immediately. One phone call. That's all it would have taken.

Fuck these sick excuses for men for allowing this monster to continue his predatory ways instead of taking action and stopping it for good in 2002. If there was any kind of reasonable suspicion before then...fuck that shit hole PoSU.

For those interested, sounds like they're going to cover this on CNN again after commercials.

Noonan (State Police Commissioner) sounded like he was super pissed in that segment on CNN. The institution and athletic dept. is going to get an anal probe like no other.

And yeah, Sandusky sounds and looks like a total douche in that short interview. Put him in gen-pop for a day or two.

According to the ESPN ticker, the CEO of Second Mile made this statement:

"To our knowledge, all the alleged incidents occurred outside of our programs and events."

Also, the Second Mile CEO is said to have testified to the grand jury that AD Curley notified Second Mile that the 2002 incident was internally reviewed and "there was no finding of wrongdoing".

"At no time was The Second Mile made aware of the very serious allegations contained in the grand jury report."

Two things - they're trying to cover their own ass from potential litigation, and Curley needs to be sent the the appropriate circle of hell.

So besides a mass firing of staff can State Penn get any NCAA violations from this?
their punishment from the court of law and the court of public opinion will be a death sentence. i fully expect that it will take years for penn state football to return to its current (lack)luster, i expect that booster money will be decimated, and i expect that school applications will plummet. i can think of little worse that a school can face.

They could hire RichRod to replace Paterno.
