Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

I'll wait until after the Game 7 loss to post what I really mean to say. There's no sense in saying what's obvious to everyone before the inevitable collapse occurs.

Doom & gloom aside, we couldn't have asked for a much better season going to the brink of the Western Conference Finals. This team is showing who they really are against one of, if not the best team in the NHL. Yeah, it's mightily disappointing when you blow a 3-1 series lead, but this team is not a very good one by the Detroit Red Wings standard that has been set the past 20+ years. They should never have been in the position they're in now, but not even the most optimistic of us even had us winning this series, let alone taking it to seven games. Just sucks they were so close to taking the series & blew it.

I hope they use their amnesty buyouts on Franzen and Sammy.

I hope Bert retires.

I will be very shocked of Filipula returns. He's rumored to be asking for $5 million per year. No thanks, even when there was no cap.

Next year may be Datsyuk's last in the NHL. His contract is up and unless he gets extended this summer, I have a feeling that he'll end his career in the KHL.

the Wings desperately need a scoring winger to pair with Datsyuk, a good 3rd line winger who can provide secondary scoring and a top-4 d-man to pair with Dekeyser.

Filipula is asking for $5.5 Mill per year for 6 or 7 years. He's [censored]ing high. That's never going to happen. Don't let the door hit you jackass....

No thanks. Considering his non-existence in the past few playoffs, I'd laugh right in his face for asking for that.

Someone on another forum I'm on was trying to say he was worth it because he's strong along the boards. My response was "when?"

That's like saying Franzen is a consistent effort guy like Draper was....it isn't anywhere near the truth.

Couldn't agree more with that analogy. Strong along the boards.....Wow. Maybe strong in getting to the the puck when there's a battle on the boards & then losing that same battle 99% of the time. I might believe that, but to have the audacity to say he's a good player on the boards is quite unbelievable.

Daniel Alfredsson leaves Ottawa, signs with Detroit Red Wings - NHL.com

Alfredsson signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings that is reportedly worth $5.5 million on Friday. He reportedly informed Senators general manager Bryan Murray that he will not return during a conversation late Thursday.

Still has some left in the tank to be sure, but not liking this move one bit considering it's a "temporary fix" to a team with a "long term problem".

@TSNBobMcKenziehttps://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/353216482710274048 That of course was $4.9M AAV for Weiss in DET on a 5 year deal.
@RealKyperhttps://twitter.com/RealKyper/status/353216472673292292 hearing Wiess to #Redwings costs them 24.5m over 5 yrs.. cap hit of 4.9M per.

Well at least it's not $6 mil a year. Solid player, but he's already 30 & didn't even play half of last season. Did well when he had Versteeg & Fleischmann on his wings, but poor when he didn't. He has to be used to losing with all of those years spent in a Panthers jersey.
