Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

So are we just going to completely neglect the biggest concern on the team ? Why no moves for D help ? Are we concise with being terrible in that regard for another season ?

I don't know, if Dekeyser comes back healthy, Kronner and Ericcson are fine and they are bringing back Kindl, who really improved last year.

If they get anything out of Smith and if Cola can get healthy, it isn't the 2002 Wings or the 1997 Wings d-corps, but it's better than last year's IMO.

Really though, this team lacks scoring punch, especially on the power play. Alfie and Weiss should fix that.

Cola got bought out, so he's gone. These are a lot of "ifs", that sound reasonable, but we all saw what happened last year. I agree they should be better than last year, but how much better is the real question. I'm not sold on what he currently have one bit. I don't think it's enough to make a deep playoff run.

I really hope we don't re-sign Cleary. That would be a monumental mistake. Sounding more & more likely that Brunner is gone too. A lot of holes on this team right now, but I agree, there's a big lack of scoring prowess & I think they've done a fair job at correcting that so far. Still very concerned about the back end though, but that's just me.

Report: Brendan Smith, Detroit Red Wings reach deal - NHL.com
TSN reported Monday the Detroit Red Wings avoided salary arbitration with restricted free-agent defenseman Brendan Smith, as the sides agreed to a two-year, $2.525 million contract. According to the report, Smith will make $1.25 million in 2013-14 and $1.275 million in 2014-15.
At least we'll be able to see if he improved at all after learning the things the hard way in the playoffs, especially against Chicago. He had to have taken something away from getting worked for seven games, right ?

This team sucks. They are completely lifeless right now.

They had 27 shots last night, but 20 of them were either from the blue line or the boards....virtually nothing in between the dots. They're soft, they don't play a lot of defense and they look like a pre-lockout offensive team that can only score 1 or 2 goals per night. If the East didn't suck so damn bad they'd be no where near a playoff spot.

Ericcson out for 5 weeks with broken ribs. These injuries are frikin ridiculous...

At least Hank is back tonight. the Wings are basically playing one line of legit NHL players and 2 lines direct from Grand Rapids, and one line of old people who are geriatric.
