DeShaun Watson (QB Cleveland Browns)

The bad news is that, barring one or more settlements, the 22 civil lawsuits pending against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will continue to linger throughout the 2022 calendar year. The good news is that none of the cases will go to trial during the 2022 NFL season.

Via Adam Ferrise of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the lawyers handling the cases have agreed that no trials will be scheduled between August 1, 2022 and March 1, 2023.

Tony Buzbee, who represents the 22 plaintiffs, told the Plain Dealer that he hopes to get a trial set for July. If that isn’t feasible, he hopes to have all 22 cases ready to go in March 2023.

Deshaun Watson attorney Rusty Hardin responds to 23rd sexual misconduct civil lawsuit

“Deshaun Watson vehemently denies the allegations, just as he has since she first discussed them with members of our firm in March of last year,” attorney Rusty Hardin said. “She repeated the allegations on social media in August and he denied them then. The only thing new about her contentions is the embellishment making them more extreme than prior versions. Deshaun’s denial remains the same.”

Not only did the plaintiff allege misconduct against the Cleveland Browns quarterback, but she said two of Hardin’s colleagues tried to talk her out of it.

“The two highly respected lawyers from our firm, Letitia Quinones and Rachel Lewis, also vehemently deny there was any coercion or intimidation involved in the very cordial meeting at Vic and Anthony’s,” Hardin said. “They met her to see if she was one of Mr. Buzbee’s then still anonymous plaintiffs. At that time Mr. Buzbee refused to identify his clients. The suggestion that either of these two accomplished lawyers would have said ‘us black women must stick together’ is absurd. The interview was so congenial, she joined the lawyers for dinner afterwards.”

Dunno... but any 'masseuse' .. pro or relative amateur... that is rubbing down a dude completely nude... is treading water
this is not to condone Watson... but if you put yourself into this situation instead of walking away when the underwear comes off...
WTF were you doing? WTF were you thinking?

and when he starts asking for some kinky stuff... and you do it... WTF

No idea how this plays out.. but I won't be surprised either way... cuz there's enuf wrong to go both ways...
If they were filing criminal charges, I might see things different...
but if I read correctly, not one of the 23 have actually filed criminal complaints... vs much-easier-to-win civil suits...
more WTFs

Honestly, how can anyone support this franchise anymore? Serial incompetence is one thing, but bringing on this dude? Fuck outta here...

Yeah, this guy shouldn't be the "face of the franchise". It just sends a bad message as to the team's standards. What's also bad is that his contract is structured so he gets paid even if the league suspends him.

FWIW, I'm no doctor nor have I stayed at a Holiday Inn recently; however, it wouldn't surprise me if Watson actually has some form of "sex addiction" and could use professional help.

But sometimes symptoms are present and noticeable. A person may have a sex addiction if they show some or all of the following signs:
  • chronic, obsessive sexual thoughts and fantasies
  • compulsive relations with multiple partners, including strangers
  • lying to cover behaviors
  • preoccupation with having sex, even when it interferes with daily life, productivity, work performance, and so on
  • inability to stop or control the behaviors
  • putting oneself or others in danger due to sexual behavior
  • feeling remorse or guilt after sex
  • experiencing other negative personal or professional consequences

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Tony Buzbee Hints At Another Possible Civil Suit Coming Against Deshaun Watson: “We Are At The Tip Of The Iceberg.”

Also, one reason there isn't any talk of an out of court settlement is that the 2 legal teams really don't like each other (especially Buzbee) and aren't talking to each other:

When asked whether he has been contacted again to settle, Buzbee said only a mediator has reached out and not Watson’s direct team.

“If you have an offer, make it,” said Buzbee. “But if you want to have a conversation, go talk to the wall…I am not interested in having a conversation with you fools.”

Buzbee, clearly fuming over the accusations leveled against him by Watson’s legal team on HBO’s Real Sports said he was verbally attacked by them and claims Hardin and team “couldn’t carry [his] brief case.”

Hardin’s team inferred that Buzbee, as the only representative for all twenty- four women suing Watson, had a hand in recruiting the women. Buzbee claims, many of the cases were referred to him by other lawyers.

Buzbee, who claims he has been disrespected repeatedly by Watson’s team, cited the three big “mistakes,” they have made throughout the process.

He says, before the cases even were filed, he was disrespected by a Los Angeles based attorney allegedly representing Watson who did not take his clients complaints seriously.

“This person on behalf of his client basically told me F*** off. He had no idea what he was saying or who he was saying it to,” Buzbee said. “Biggest mistake in sports in the last five years I promise you.”

Buzbee said the second mistake was made by Watson’s team after he filed a few of the first cases and had a short conversation with Rusty Hardin.

“I said, ‘Man, based on what I know, your client has a problem.”

Describing Hardin as “initially receptive” to working it out and settling, Buzbee claims Hardin never even bothered to call him back.

Buzbee, said mistake number three was Watson’s team going on HBO Real Sports and “attacking” him.

Attorney Tony Buzbee: Houston Texans, others to be added as defendants in lawsuits against Deshaun Watson

Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing all 24 women who have filed civil lawsuits against Deshaun Watson, said his law firm will "soon be joining the Houston Texans organization and others as defendants" in the lawsuits against the quarterback.

On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that the nondisclosure agreement that Watson gave to some of the plaintiffs to sign came from the Texans' director of security, Brent Naccara. The Times also reported that the Texans provided a hotel room at The Houstonian hotel, where several of the massages took place.

"What has become clear is that the Houston Texans organization and their contracting 'massage therapy company' facilitated Deshaun Watson's conduct," Buzbee said in a statement. "In many of these cases, the Texans provided the opportunity for this conduct to occur. We believe the Texans organization was well aware of Watson's issues, but failed to act. They knew or certainly should have known.

"We intend to make sure all involved in Watson's conduct are held accountable, in addition to and including Watson himself."

For the life of me, I'll never understand why the Browns FO thought it was a good idea to give the biggest guaranteed contract in history to a man with SO MANY allegations against him. It's baffling that no one realized that he may miss 8gms(if they're lucky) minimum. And now you have a pissed off Baker Mayfield as your only viable option at QB, who's injured and just not very good. But he's the best they have on their roster, so he has all of the leverage now! And they stupidly at the same time reset the QB salary over a guy who may never play for them. :hoke:

The man has played his last snap in a Browns uniform. All these silly fantasies of him remaining on the roster and playing in lieu of Watson during a suspension are ridiculous. It ain't happening.

Welp, then they just set their team back years, and the best bet at this point is going to be signing an injury prone and overrated Jimmy G. It would make more sense to play Baker, boost his stock in order to trade him for more, trading him now will net nothing. But whatever, it ain't my team. But Jacoby Brisset and Josh Dobbs won't lead the team to many wins

These are all civil lawsuits.. at end of day, his atty or their mediator will negotiate a lump sum which the atty takes a third and splits the rest
Not sure if it was a smart move to include the Texans.. I get it.. attorneys SOP throw the net as wide as you can... but that brings deep pockets to the defense
and not sure this atty is up to the task of fighting big firms.. dunno.. maybe

There were known cases of Ben Roth rapes for years.. even directly from some of the girls he raped in bathrooms... and wasn't much public uproar.. and that was criminal...
