Derrick "LLL" Green (RB ttun transfer to TCU)

Michigan RB Derrick Green weighs in at 240 pounds, and other roster notes

ANN ARBOR -- Fall camp is underway at Michigan, and that means the official (and up to date) heights and weights of every member of the squad is now public.

Michigan's freshman class checked into camp Saturday, followed by the upperclassmen on Sunday. Everyone was measured, everyone was weighed. Some players gained weight, some lost weight.

The most notable weight change, though, comes from freshman running back Derrick Green. Green was listed at 222 pounds before the start of fall camp, but is now list at 5-foot-11, 240 pounds on Michigan's official roster.

The country's top running back recruit in 2013, Green had troubles with his weight during his early years as a high school player in Virginia.

Green reportedly weighed nearly 270 pounds prior to his sophomore year, before slimming all the way down around 220 -- and eventually becoming the top high school runner in America.

Contd....

And people say Hoke can't coach.......

I don't want to bash Derrick because he seems like a good kid and I was pulling for him to end up in Scarlet & Gray.

Still, much has been made about the differences in approach between Coach Meyer & Hoke with lots of emphasis on the laid back, relaxed atmosphere in Ann Arbor (whore!). I can't help but wonder if this is something we're going to see more of up north. Conversely with Urban's heavy focus on highly self motivated players, I would be shocked to see a top RB recruit show up in Columbus completely out of shape.

A little surprising honestly...he seemed really motivated after getting down to the weight he did...and building his body the way he did to become a good player. Either way, it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. I was bummed to pass on Green but having Elliott in the bag always made me feel better, especially now.

I wasn't worrying about missing out on green when we got Elliot, he seemed like a better fit for our offense anyway. Green fits better in the scUM pro style offense where he can possibly carry the ball 25-30 times a game. I could see the coaching staff going after one bigger RB every so often but filling our roster with RBs that get to campus around 200-210 and are more of the all purpose style.
