Even though both may be uncomfortable to me, there is obviously a consideration for severity on whether I feel it appropriate to "assist the moderation."

And it isn't my rule, but I perceive the enforcement of it as lenient compared to others. I just think you've attached a 2 week ban to it so you've made it fairly difficult to enforce. Nobody would get speeding tickets if it meant two weeks in jail--whether they were going 10 over or 25.

We're getting off topic, we can discuss privately if necessary.

No need to discuss. I just find it ironic that one would complain, yet deny the opportunity to actually do something about the issue.

No worries on this end. I'm very comfortable with how we handle things around here and the way the rules are enforced.

Follow the golden rule. If you overheard these same things being said about your child in the stands, would you have a reason to be justifiably upset? That is what I consider bashing. If I overheard a parent say "I would rather they play the other kid, he has a lot of potential and Jimmy has been having a hard time" it would not make me angry--at least not justifiably. If I overheard someone say "we're [censored]ed" when my kid went in, it would be offensive.

Some parents would be "offended" by either comment. The definition of what is "offensive" is different for everyone, which is why I don't envy the mods when it comes to player threads.

I try to use a player's stats to state my position where possible. They are what they are, and it isn't an attack to actually notice them.

It sure would be nice to have someone definate rolling into the first big ten game of the year tho... Kinda sucks that we obviously will not. If this game is not split 50/50 in terms of reps for Braxton then I don't wanna see the "OR" again.

Note, "or" does not confuse anyone fick.

I'm a firm believer that teams typically perform better if there is a firm starter for the first game, not just the first conference game. That is the most disheartening thing about this whole deal.

Looking at notes from today's presser, it seems like the coaches have made a decision about who will start on Saturday, but they'll still have a competition during the week. If I had to put money on it, I'd say Braxton gets the nod on Saturday.

Also....

This is why I didn't want to get in to this.

Saying someone sucks as a quarterback and saying they are incompetent as a quarterback means the same thing to some, different to others.

Only most people agree that saying someone sucks is inappopriate.

Do I have an issue with someone saying "there is a lot that quarterback needs to work on. He has a slow release, does not make great reads, and does not check down properly?" Absolutely not, I think this is fair criticism. I would even be fine with "he hasn't improved by now, I'm not sure he will."

This all boils down to you being upset that the mods here don't ascribe the same definition to "bashing" a player as you do. At the end of the day, the mods around here decide what is bashing and what is not. You've already made your unwillingness to help (well, aside from your few posts in this thread complaining that the mods don't ascribe the same definition to "bashing" as you do) quite evident. I guess the only thing that is left is for you not to visit BP, considering you don't like the way things are being run and yet you're unwilling to help, no?

It is semantical. That isn't the type of criticism I'm talking about.

Non-bashing: Quarterback A doesn't read defenses well, gets flustered easily, and [doesn't have] consistent accuracy. He hampers the offense.

Grey: Thow in the towel, quarterback A is starting. He is an incompetent quarterback.
Bashing: Quarterback A sucks. He can't throw for shit. Bench his dumb ass.

Bolded would be considered bashing...

I got a similar feeling when reading the notes.

I left the game early... I couldn't watch it "live," so I fired up the Tivo and watched it through most of the third quarter, by then (and knowing the final outcome) I moved on to other things

Frankly, I didn't see either QB "win" the next start. I didn't see either "lose" the job either.

I saw a good offensive push up front, lots of promise at the RB position and receivers who are raw talent. I saw a veteran, Stoneburner, have stone hands too; a critical third and long, the ball slightly off and he wasn't able to hold on. Punt, fantastic run back and boom, the Bucks are down 14.

I could question some of the offensive calls, but I'm not a football coach.

If I saw anything, I saw a team that doesn't have the overall speed of last year's team; something that I believe showed up in the Toledo game.

Punt coverage still puts me into apoplexy.

Young team, green team. Could be a long year, or they might just find themselves in another three or four weeks after the vets return. If not then there's always the 2012 season.

In soccer, there's the saying, "play the ball, not the man." It's a useful phrase when trying to understand what it means to "bash" a player.

Our views can be thought of as "the ball" and other posters as "the man". BP is a place where anonymous members have the right to state their views and beliefs. However, with that right comes the responsibility to show sufficient maturity and respect to other members, by avoiding unnecessary personal attacks on those with whom we disagree.

Arguments are never won by attacking others persons, rather than the logic of their arguments or veracity of their beliefs.

When it comes to discussing the players, objective comments about their individual performance can be thought of as "the ball". Subjective comments about their person can be thought of as "the man".

By all means, feel free to point out that Bauserman hit only two passes last week and whatever other sins you might wish to recall. Feel free to say that you have difficulty believing Ohio State will win if he plays because of [insert objective reason or evidence here]. Those are beliefs and opinions and we all have them.

Bashing occurs when you make negative comments about the player's person. It occurs when you "play the man".

So, if your comment is negative and its about an objective fact, even if it attaches to a player, then probably you are not bashing the player.

If your comment is negative and it expresses a subjective opinion about a player, then probably you are bashing the player.

Saw some stat where the offense averaged 2 yards per play when Baus was in, and over 5 when Braxton was in. Baus was 2/14, Braxton 2/4. Neither was really having success throwing the ball, but at least with Braxton there is a threat of when the play breaks down he can go get yardage, which was so taken for granted with TP it's not even funny...

Those things combined with the fact that Miller is a true frosh who will be starting the next 3 years after this one makes the decision a no brainer IMO.

Good points. I agree.
