Here's a great response from a Chicago columnist.
He responds to their bullshit piece by piece. Here's my favorite, but all are worth a read.

As was your description of the article...localyokel;2071098; said:Honestly, I didn't remember if I'd brought it over here or not (and was too lazy to go back & look). I found it because my daughter had the link to the Onion's article on her facebook page. The author's rage & contempt for PedU are tangible, and so very well deserved.
I remembered it almost word for word, and quoted the description on my facebook page. Which is how I found that post.localyokel;2033257; said:I actually loved this article. Relentlessly vicious skewering of all the idiot JoePa apologists and their grossly imbalanced value systems.

It's always annoyed me that PSU didn't reveal JoePa's total compensation, despite FOIA requests to get the information. They act like they're the 'Pennsylvania State University', but they hide behind some BS 'commonwealth' technicality in order to not comply with things like FOIA requests when they deem them inconvenient. The five-year contract finalized Friday included a base compensation starting at $950,000 with a 5-percent salary increase each season. O'Brien was also to receive another $1 million a year for radio and TV work, as well as a $350,000 Nike contract.
The base package is roughly on par with Paterno's compensation, which was about $1.02 million last year - a relative bargain for a coach with two national championships. But Penn State previously had not released what compensation Paterno received from outside the university, like endorsement deals.
BB73;2029466; said:Sandusky was a guy that worked for Joe for over 30 years. As a DC, there were probably hundreds of weeks where they spent more time together than they did with their wives. If JoePa was told that Sandusky was "in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy", which is the quote in the Grand Jury document, don't you think it's JoePa's responsibility as head of the football program to find out if that was true, and if so, prevent Sandusky from being able to something like that again in the showers of the Penn State football facility, where Sandusky still had an office and emeritus status? Shouldn't JoePa also find out if his longtime friend needed some help?
Perhaps Paterno fulfilled his legal responsibility by passing the information up the chain. But in my eyes he clearly fell way short of his ethical responsibilities toward all of the young boys in Second Mile. If one of my sons had been abused by Sandusky sometime after that 2002 incident. I'd make DAMN sure that Paterno was named in the civil lawsuit, along with the AD, the VP of finance that was also in charge of the University Police at the time (there's a conflict of interest nobody's commented on), President Spanier, Penn State University, and Jerry Sandusky himself.
BB73;2030690; said:A question for the lawyers. There will undoubtedly be huge civil suits forthcoming against, PSU. Spanier, Sandusky, JoePa, Curley, Schultz, and others.
What has to happen before their assets can be frozen, in order to prevent those folks from stashing their money overseas or wherever, in an attempt to avoid losing almost all of their assets? Does at least one civil suit need to be filed first, and then a motion to have their assets frozen?
http://www.buckeyextra.com/content/stories/2012/01/09/paterno-eager-to-tell-his-side-son-says.htmlFormer Penn State coach Joe Paterno is ?champing at the bit? to tell his side of the story regarding the events that led to his firing in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal and wants to do so soon, his son, Jay Paterno, told ESPN.
In an on-camera interview with ESPN?s Tom Rinaldi, the younger Paterno also said his father continued to maintain a positive outlook even as he?s been fighting lung cancer.
?He?s doing well because of the fact he?s in great spirits,? Jay Paterno told ESPN. ?Anytime you have this kind of fight on your hands, you have to have a fighting spirit, which Joe has always had. And he?s fighting like crazy.?
The younger Paterno described his father as eager to speak at length about his role in the scandal. The former Penn State coach has said he wished he had done more after then-graduate assistant Mike McQueary told him in 2002 of an incident between Sandusky and a young boy that was ?of a sexual nature,? according to Paterno?s grand jury testimony. Paterno told McQueary to talk to then-athletic director Tim Curley, but no one at the university ever contacted police, according to prosecutors.
Paterno was fired, along with university president Graham Spanier, on Nov. 9.
?He?s very anxious to get out there soon and start to tell his side of the story,? Jay Paterno said. ?What that timetable is, I don?t know exactly. But he definitely is champing at the bit.?
After 46 years of Paterno serving as the coach, Penn State introduced its new, full-time coach, Bill O?Brien, on Saturday. Several prominent former players had threatened to cut ties with the program if someone without a Penn State connection, such as O?Brien, was hired.
Jay Paterno said he and his father want alumni and fans to support O?Brien.

?I think the most important thing, when you look at some of the things that have happened in the past, whether it be Duke lacrosse, whether it be Richard Jewell in Atlanta, I think there has to be some time for facts to come out,? Paterno said. ?And whether ? they may have had facts. I don?t know what they had, so I don?t know what message I could?ve delivered to them based on I don?t know what information they had. ?

That's right guys. Have any of us really stopped and thought that we are accusing this poor old man without any facts? (You know aside from multiple testimonies under oath, including the testimony of JoePa himself, but besides that stuff, absolutely no facts here)
BB73;2085520; said:If only Jay Paterno had noticed this thread and BP's Sandusky thread, and read through all of the facts and opinions in those threads, he might have a different opinion. It's probably my fault that he hasn't done that.
