Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

Looks like JoePa is telling all the incoming recruits that his replacement will be someone already on staff.

Recruits being told in-house successor - Altoona Mirror

Does this strike anyone else as disingenuous?

Not to me really. While I don't agree that the successor should necessarily come from someone in house, being that it is Joe Paterno and the kind of clout he has there, it's likely he'll essentially hand-pick his successor.

I think a lot of PSU fans would disagree with you on that one. Paterno has suggested several times that he would like to coach for a few more years, but it seems the President and other higher-ups at PSU have other plans. I really think they'd like to bring in someone high profile. Of course, Greg Schiano's name has been mentioned again and again. Either way, if the successor was going to come from in-house, don't you think PSU would have already pulled an FSU and named him publicly?

If it's JaPa, would Johnson be pissed and leave? Would Johnson stay if he's passed over by anyone on that staff? Just imagine the whole dynamic if Pryor would have committed. It could have turned that whole program around.

But, it's gonna be...........Bradley. And Johnson will get pissed and leave.

If its anyone already on the staff and their best recruiter gets pissed off and leaves because of it could we really ask for anything more?

Bradley would be the guy to get pissed....since he's been the reason they ever won a single game in the last 5 or so years. Either way, one or both of those two getting pissed and leaving is good news for me.

I can't see LJ Sr. getting the head coaching job considering he's never even been a coordinator. Honestly I doubt any successor has been picked, it's likely Paterno putting pressure on the BoT to pick an internal guy when the time comes.

Bingo! And I see this as pretty darn disingenuous. You've got a couple dozen kids making one of the most important decisions of their lives based on a false premise (assuming no internal replacement has been picked). If there is a plan in place that involves someone on-staff, why wouldn't they have gone public w/ the plans a la FSU?

Do you really think the PS program would pull something like this ? I don't.
As fas as I am concerned their program is just as viable as tOSU .
They are not a trashy institution, jmo.

Agreed.. I find it unreasonable to assume they're lying.

Well, I guess we'll find out soon enough, because I doubt JoePa will be back after the 2009 season. As far as the current PSU staff being ethical when it comes to recruiting, I think there are some well-informed Mods on here that would disagree with you, but that is probably better left to another forum.

You are entitled to opinion just as I am and so are the mods. the one thing I won't do is condemn them without proof. You got any?

Do they mislead? Yes. I find that very different than blatantly lying. I don't think a school would get much benefit out of blatantly lying to kids and their families. I'm no expert on PSU recruiting. I just don't think Paterno would say that without having some reason to say it.. just my opinion..
