Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

The great irony is that the cult thinks the outsiders (from Freeh on down to the message board and comment section commenters) are out to destroy Penn State. The reality is that listening to the outside world is the only thing that will save it. Competition for students, grad students, top faculty and research dollars is too intense.

If the statue decision is indicative of how that university is ready to respond to the call for change from the outside, it'll be all too easy to make Penn State the first school scratched off the list whether you're a 33 ACT kid from New York, a promising young Ph.D from the University of Chicago or a grant writer from the NIH or Defense Dept.

They might preserve the cult and send their own children there, but they'll ensure that it goes back to being the isolated farm college that it was when JoePed arrived.

I would love to see the letter O'Brien is sending out to his commits right now. Probably belongs with these.

Still amazed at the number of folks holding on to their support of Joe Pa....
I'm starting to see a break in the wave over on BWI. Audibles seems to be more dug in, at this point. They have moderators working in shifts running to dear leader's defense over there...

Penn State Fooball wanted to reap the rewards that come with being a modern style program with a huge stadium, BigTen television revenue, great media exposure (for on-field stuff only)..............yet be allowed to run their program internally like an old-school "good ole boys" club complete with an iron curtain around the disciplinary side of the house.

I doubt seriously that you could find a big time football program where the athletic department didn't try to keep discipline in house. Before throwing too many stones, think of how many times players at almost any major school have been rescued by lawyers whose phone numbers are on the coach's speed dial. That includes Ohio State.

Penn State had an advantage in being a large school in a small town, but in the end that advantage created an environment where St. Joe could manipulate the system to a greater degree than most coaches enjoy.

When we're talking about revenue streams that are in the tens of millions or more, there's going to be an SOP for dealing with such situations.

That St. Joe and others allowed child abuse to go unchecked and unreported is an entirely different matter.
