I have put together a simple "analytics" rating system for Buckeye defenders. I won't go into the details here, but I look only at raw stats (not some PFF detailed play-by-play analysis), come up with a score for each player, then adjust the score to reflect a 40-game career.

Here's how Harrison compares to some other recent Buckeye edge rushers:

Joey Bosa: 307.9
Nick Bosa: 290.9
Chase Young: 284.0
Sam Hubbard: 214.3
Noah Spence: 191.2
Zach Harrison: 177.6
Tyquan Lewis: 169.9

So, not elite production but far from a bust. If he can ever get his production to match his athleticism, then he will be an All-Pro caliber player.

That's his best chance at a long career. He's not an everydown player. Will have to turn into a pass rush specialist if he wants to have a 10 year career. I don't think he will ever fill out enough to be able to play the run well enough to be a 4 down player.

He definitely saved the Buckeyes in probably 2 games last year with his edge rushing late. I do believe he can mimic that in the NFL.

Thank you LJB. From the looks at it, the third round was an appropriate position to draft him too. Falcons didn't reach for Zach

The one thing I would add about his potential and athleticism is that he isn't twitched up. He has crazy top end speed for his size but he's not explosive like the Bosa's/Young elite level DE's.

That isn't something that comes later no matter how hard he works.

And that list is crazy athletic as well.

The Bosas are cheat codes, who were future all pros partway into year 2 in college. Chase was a generational talent (above Clowney), Sam was a safety prospect that grew into an NFL DE, Spence was the 2nd best speed rusher on this list, and the above excludes MLB turned edge Browning (broncos).

If the falcons can get the average of Hubbard/Lewis from a productionstandpoint, they'll be very happy.

Coming out of HS, his potential was through the roof but he had a pretty low floor to start from (very unlike the Bosas, Young, etc).

His technique and production had not caught up this athleticism.

COLUMBUS – Ohio State, Alabama, USC and just about everyone else knows Zach Harrison’s name. He’s 6’6’ and 245 pounds and… he’s 15 years old. And that’s not all. Olentangy Orange’s super sophomore also has some remarkable speed for his size. So much speed, in fact, that Harrison runs sprints on the track team. Zach’s been blessed with some remarkable gifts.

And then there’s his feet.

Size 17 feet, to be exact.

Zach’s feet are so big that major shoe manufacturers like Nike and Adidas do not make sprinter’s spikes large enough for him (his mother and coaches have called all of them and asked). So Zach continues to run wearing normal running shoes. And… he’s still incredibly fast.

Despite not getting the same grip into the track as his competitors, Zach has run the 2nd fastest 200 meter time in Ohio this year. His 21.58 at the OCC championship last week is barely a second off the Ohio high school state record.

The Bucks have a nice history of 'complimentary' NFL edge rushers (I call them)

Will Smith (god rest him)
Jay Richardson had a shot at one point.
John Simon
Noah Spence is another one that was on his way until injury happened.
Sam Hubbard
Barron Browning in 2019 when they let him edge rush was a glimpse into his future.


Zach is another in that list who, injury being avoided, will come in and be a good and long tenured pro lined up on the other side of a franchise rusher.
