Sarasota, Fla., defensive end Walter Dublin (6-3, 235, 4.6) said he's decided to attend Ohio State over other offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Clemson and Virginia Tech.
"I'm going to cancel the trip I had set for Clemson this weekend," Dublin said. "I visited Ohio State last weekend and just got back yesterday (Jan. 8). I went alone. I told coach Jim Tressel that I had a great time on my visit and that they were far ahead of everyone else.
"After talking with my family and my coach about it since I've been back, I've decided I'm ready to commit to Ohio State tomorrow. Tressel is an amazing coach and his team is always winning BCS bowls and championships. He's all about value. He wants what's best for his players.
"The highlight of my trip to Ohio State was my meeting with coach Tressel. He is the most respectable guy I have ever sat down to talk with. I just decided to nip it in the bud now and go to Ohio State.
"They want me to play the LEO position for them," he said. "It's like a nickel position. Sometimes I'll be playing with my hand down on the ground for them. Sometimes I'll be playing up as an outside linebacker. All the other programs wanted me for weakside linebacker.
Dublin missed four games with a broken left ankle as a senior. He still blocked four punts and had 11 sacks. "I didn't have surgery and my ankle is already 100% now," he said. Dublin reports a 2.5 core GPA and a 1060 SAT (old version). "I should have my GPA up to about a 2.9 when I graduate. I'm retaking some classes."
