DE Vernon Gholston (Official Thread)

Gholston is going to be a heck of a player, but the talk of him going early at this point is a little premature. Keep in mind that Will Smith did not even get drafted until mid to late first round, and that's after he stayed for his SR year.

Like all the other top 10 programs, we have a lot of great athletes and a few are in the position to make the jump early every year. However, if more players do decide to test their luck with the draft, then the state of our program would take a step back. Unless you are certain that you'll go in the first, there is no reason to make the jump. (Youboty and the Bucks would have really benefited had he stayed an extra year).

No one is saying he's definitely gone after next year, but if he continues to improve and then blows up next season, the possibility of his bailing is quite real.

I agree that the potential is there, his one armed tackle reminiscent of the one armed sack of Smith against Miami. Let's just hope that he continues to blow up and stays for his senior year!

i'd love to get in the minds of the guys that vernon lines up against. seriously, you cannot feel good. holding is not the last resort but the only resort. i'm still waiting for a play where vernon and a tailback meet head-on.

The Clothesline - Proof positive that Vernon isn't one of those guys that just "passes the look test". He has freakish strength to go with his freakish size, definition and vascularity. His improvement is one of the great stories this year.

But that's just it isn't it? There are SO MANY great stories about the Buckeyes this year. Their are so many special personalities, situations, family histories; and yet they are all such great guys on top of it. It's almost overwhelming.

Just like Vernon, except for the 'almost' part.

Last year I might have agreed with you, but Pittman is the complete back. Strong, quick, good blocker, team player, good hands, student of the game, well composed...

He's 1st round material.

Yea we all think he is but the Pro's wont, he is a second to third round back at best. Just wait and see.

first round? doubtful
Really? He's beginning to get a lot more attention from the draftniks. He has deceptive speed, vision, power, I'd say there's a good shot at him going in the late first round when his time comes. But not to hijack a thread...Gholston has it all, including recruiting ability. Joseph Barksdale has said he likes the way Big Vern has developed at tOSU.
