Vernon Gholston: A man of few words
Defensive end says little about himself, but his dominant play speaks plenty about his value

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Vernon Gholston is both the calm and the storm. He is the strong, silent type. The Ohio State defensive end is legendary for once squatting 455 pounds 20 times. His arms are like the trunks of a redwood tree, his abdomen flat.
When his playing days are over, he could make a living modeling for muscle magazines.
On the field, he's a terror. He plays the "Leo" position for the Buckeyes, a spot that requires an athletic and versatile player who can rush quarterbacks or drop into pass coverage.

Vernon reminds me a bit of Mike Kudla. That second picture is really phenominal, Josh. He seems the type that gets to the ball by going point A to point B through obstacle A-B. Not much of a speed rusher or "moves"/hands guy, he really seems to have the brute strength to influence the play. Keep in mind folks, that guy he's picking off the ground is a left tackle (Hoyer, their QB, is right handed). Decent knee bend really gives him the opportunity to get under the blocker and, as evidenced, lift the blocker's core. Very similar to a good tackle (take down, not position).
