Don't be a hater, MSU got him fair and square

where exactly was I being a hater? Did I badmouth msu? I said it would have been good to get him. Like I said, "with all I had been hearing/reading." What do you think that entails?

Guess I have to be more specific. With all I have been hearing/reading, missing out on him isn't going to be a huge disaster because of a few others that are in the fold.

still shocked beyond belief that MSU pulled him. Have to give Dantonio props, it was a huge get for MSU.

Pittman definitely better than Lawrence Thomas (the highly rated DE MSU signed in the 2011 class) and he's definitely on par if not better than with Will Gholston (the highly rated DE MSU signed in 2010).

I would've been surprised if OSU hadn't hit the turmoil they've faced. Otherwise OSU likely lands him. Nothing surprises me now that OSU is in such limbo with not being able to tell recruits what the sanctions are and not knowing who their coach is going to be.

C'mon now....it might not be surprising he decided against going to OSU, but it's still shocking he wound up picking Michigan State.

Michigan State just doesn't get highly ranked out of state kids like him, even under the best of circumstances.

There's never been circumstances like this so it's hard to say they don't ever get kids from Ohio under the best circumstances.
As for him picking MSU, I'm not surprised in the least. Why wouldn't kids pick MSU if they're not comfortable with OSU? Michigan State is coming off a Big Ten co-championship and has finished second to Ohio State for some top Ohio guys in the past. Given Ohio State's situation is unsettled right now, I'm not the least bit surprised. Outside of Ohio State, Michigan State has probably been the second or third best team in the conference since Dantonio arrived and MSU has owned Michigan recently and has a proven coach so no, not surprised he would pick MSU.

Considering that Pittman is a Canton McKinley guy I would think that when the smoke clears and our coaching situation is resolved he'll take another look at OSU. I know McKinley has strong ties to MSU via the Snows (Eric and Percy) but the ties to OSU are probably stronger. If Pittman's academic house is in order and OSU gets their house in order I think Pittman will at least take another look at the Buckeyes as will many of these Ohio recruits making early committments. If and when Fickel is named head coach it will be interesting to see who on the staff stays and who goes. If he decides to hire a more experienced QB coach and O-coordinator I would love to see him consider another McKinley alumn, Josh McDaniels. Ties w/ Vrabel through the Pats, strong Ohio roots, and great NFL experience. Whether he'd consider making the move to college is another story though.

I want to make it very clear that I'm not referring specifically about Pittman when I say this because I have no knowledge of his academic situation whatsoever, but traditionally kids who have the talent to go elsewhere that end up choosing MSU do so because they would not qualify at other high profile schools.

I don't know this to be factual, but I believe MSU may have a LD program the helps them out from time to time?

Pittman thrives without pads

Although a rule in the Ohio High School Athletic Association left defensive lineman Se'von Pittman (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) without pads for the lineman events, the Michigan State commit said it was a blessing in disguise.

"To be honest I really liked it because it allowed me to focus on using my hands more," Pittman said. "Instead of just using strength I had to use more technique to get the job done.

"It's something that will help me a lot in the upcoming season."

The 6-4, 230-pounder committed to Michigan State a month ago and says he couldn't be happier.

"The more I know about the program the better decision I feel like I've made," Pittman said. "Everything is a fit for me on and off the field."
