DE Sam Hubbard (All B1G, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

I would like him at LB as well, due to our depth concerns, but at 6'6'' 225lbs and only 17, don't you foresee a move to DE eventually? This kid could gain another 20-25lbs and keep that speed and athleticsm

No idea where this kid is going to play, but I find fans get too caught up on size alone in projecting a player. Take Brian Rolle. I remember more than a few posters projecting him at safety based on his 5-11 stature. I think Hubbard is more of a skilled/athletic player than a physically imposing trench player at this point. Not to say that he can't play DL, but his speed and athleticism may be better served at LB or TE.

Who knows what this kid will look like after a few years in the program. He could be 245 lbs before he even enrolls. Then by his sophomore year could be pushing 265. We just don't know yet but I do know Sam is a physical specimen, and I can't wait to see how Urban uses him. My prediction is they move him to LEO, and redshirt him. Vrabel will coach him up, then watch out..

watched him from the press box for Moeller's game against Pike (IN)...Probably could play TE...but after seeing him from that view playing safety, not sure I would want to move him from the defensive side of the ball. 'Freak' is the word that comes to my mind.

6-foot-6 linebacker prospect still growing

Joseph Fuqua II | Cincinnati Enquirer
Cincinnati Moeller's Sam Hubbard (6) makes a tackle in a game against Pike High School earlier this season.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2013

  • At the moment, Sam Hubbard is considered to be part of the solution for the depth problem at linebacker for Ohio State. That is, unless he grows right on up into being a center for OSU basketball coach Thad Matta.

Joking aside, in a couple of years, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound outside linebacker from Cincinnati Moeller could be much larger — heavier for sure — though with the same speed. One of the reasons why Ohio State accepted his early commitment months ago to the 2014 class is his potential.

“The book is pretty much open right now,” Hubbard said. “They don’t know exactly what I’ll end up doing.”

Whatever position becomes his, he knows he still will have a linebacker’s heart. Hubbard plays with speed and intensity, and he doesn’t shy from the big collisions.

“That’s the way I try to play, at least,” Hubbard said.
